Außerdem erhalten die Kampfpanzer "Leclerc XLR" weiterentwickelte Kommandantenperiskope (Viseur Chef) PASEO, entwickelt von der GME MODVIS (KNDS France, Safran Electronics & Defense), die nun mit Funktionen "Künstlicher Intelligenz" versehen werden sollen:

Bis Ende 2025 wird eine erste GTIA (Groupement Tactique Interarmes) mit 51 Kampfpanzern Lecler XLR ausgestattet. Bis 2030 sollen 160 Kampfpanzer des neuen Standard ausgeliefert sein, bis 2030 insgesamt 200 Kampfpanzer.

Die Kampfpanzer erhalten Systeme zur vernetzten Kampfführung aus dem Programm SCORPION, Funkgeräte CONTACT, eine fernbedienbare Waffenstation mit einem 7,62 mm-Maschinengewehr und den IED-Störsender BARAGE. Das Kernstück ist aber das neue Kommandantenperiskop PASEO. Die neuen Funktionalitäten dieses Systems werden in diesem Post angeführt:

• Sektorüberwachung: Modus zum Abtasten eines vorgegebenen Sektors der Landschaft um eine automatisierte Überwachung dieses Sektors zur ermöglichen und den Panzerkommandanten von dieser Aufgabe zu entlasten, der sich damit auf die Vorbereitung von Befehlen und Versenden von Lageberichten konzentrieren kann.

• Detektionsunterstützung: Ziele erscheinen, je nach Kategorie (Fußsoldaten, Radfahrzeuge, Kampfpanzer, ...) mit unterschiedlichen Farben umrandet, im Periskop

• Korrektur atmosphärischer Störungen: Erlaubt die Korrektur der Bildwiedergabe, welche durch atmosphärische Turbulenzen verändert werden könnte

Diese neue Fähigkeit soll 2028 bei den Regimentern eingeführt werden.

Das 19e régiment du génie hat VBMR Griffon und Minenräumsysteme Système de dépollution de zone (SDZ) erhalten. Gleichzeitig wird das 1989 eingeführte Engin blindé du Génie (EBG) (1. Kampfwertsteigerung 2012; 2. Kampfwertsteigerung zum EBG VAL: 2018 - damalige Perspektive zum Ende der Nutzungsdauer: 2025) außer Dienst gestellt, obwohl sich der Pionierpanzer EGC (früher: Moyen d'Appui au Contact) noch nicht einmal in der Frühphase der Entwicklung befindet und erst Anfang des nächsten Jahrzehnts geliefert werden soll:

Paris Air Show 2025: France orders land-based version of 40 mm RAPIDFire system

The Direction Générale de l'Armement (DGA), the French defence procurement agency, has ordered 48 land-based versions of the 40 mm RapidFire system, Thales announced in a press release on 16 June. The system was unveiled at the Paris Air Show 2025 being held at Le Bourget on 16-22 June.

Under development by Thales and KNDS France and qualified in early 2025, the remotely operated system is armed with the 40CTA (40 mm Cased Telescoped Ammunition) cannon and can combat air and surface threats. It was planned following discussions with France's Armée de l'Air et de l'Espace (AAE, Air and Space Force) on the service's need to protect high-value assets at its air bases in France and deployed abroad.

Thales and KNDS France unveil RAPIDFire Land, a land-based variant of the 40 mm RAPIDFire Naval defence system

The French defence procurement agency (DGA) has awarded a contract for the production of 48 of these systems, and the first two RAPIDFire systems ordered earlier are now operational on board France's new-generation fleet replenishment tankers.

The French defence procurement agency (DGA) has already ordered 14 RAPIDFire systems to equip French Navy vessels. Two systems have been installed on board the fleet replenishment tanker (BRF) Jacques Chevallier, which has completed two long-duration deployments, including several live fire exercises, with France’s carrier strike group. Two others were recently installed on France’s second BRF tanker Jacques Stosskopf ahead of an upcoming long-duration deployment. A fifth system will soon equip a new French Navy offshore patrol vessel.

The RAPIDFire system was qualified in early 2025 and can now be used with all existing 40CT munitions.

KNDS France and Thales are developing the land version of RAPIDFire in two configurations:

• Semi-mobile for site protection, with a 20-foot platform set up on the ground that can be readily moved and re-deployed to other locations.

• Mobile, with the 20-foot platform mounted on a vehicle to protect high-value assets in the theatre of operations.

A3B, the ideal munition for air defence

Leveraging the proven airburst technology of the GPR-AB-T round, the Anti Aerial Airburst (A3B) munition delivers a payload of tungsten subprojectiles with a directional (frontal) terminal effect, providing enhanced effectiveness against various types of aerial targets: drones, helicopters, light aircraft, fighter jets, low-end subsonic missiles and RAM (rocket, artillery, mortar) threats.

Development of the A3B munition is ongoing (currently at Technology Readiness Level 5), with full operational capability in anti-air mode expected in 2027. A contract modification was awarded in late 2024 for the development, production engineering, qualification and delivery of a first batch of 500 A3B munitions with the RAPIDFire system.
