A month ago, TNO hosted one of the first major workshops of the iMUGS2 project, relating to the development of operational requirements, alongside a meeting of the Technical Steering Group (TSG). The Netherlands “Work Package 2” workshop was an important milestone — not only for WP2, but for the iMUGS2 consortium.

This workshop marked the transition from concept discussions to coordinated European-level operational structuring. It provided a concrete platform to present this thinking within a multinational context and connect it directly to the ongoing concept development activities. The consortium partners and subject matter experts (SMEs) from participating Member States had the opportunity to engage face-to-face, build mutual understanding, and align their perspectives.
Alongside the WP2 workshop, the Technical Steering Group(TSG) gathered for the first time. The TSG’s governance role is to shape the work and support participants, collecting ideas on its future scope and ways of working, while keeping in mind the high ambition and extensive requirements set by the Member States and Norway — developing, integrating, demonstrating, and validating solutions through final trials — toward the objective of developing a system ready to be integrated into various EU Member States armed forces by 2030.

Avilus has been selected as part of the European Defence Agency (EDA)-funded RASCAP consortium, bringing together leading European defence, medical, and research organisations to advance Robotic and Autonomous Systems (RAS) for rescue and medical support operations.
The project will focus on three major capability areas: field suitability, aeromedical suitability, and swarm suitability, supporting the broader development of autonomous medical and logistical operations in Europe.

As part of the consortium, Avilus will lead flight testing activities with the unmanned aircraft Grille, providing insights and assessing the aircraft’s suitability for transporting critical patients in medical evacuation scenarios.

To assess the effectiveness, the project will evaluate:

‍Resilience and Flexibility to ensure reliability across varying weather conditions and challenging environments. Medical Adequacy to assess the impact of robotic autonomous evacuation systems on patient safety and treatment continuity. Low-Complexity Operations to minimize staffing requirements while maintaining operational efficiency and mission effectiveness.

RASCAP consortium members include Avilus, Axnes AS, Epiguard AS, Nordiq Products AS, the Norwegian Defence Research Establishment (FFI), KNDS, the Technical University of Munich – Institute of Flight System Dynamics (TUM-FSD), the Technical University of Munich – Klinikum Rechts der Isar (TUM-MED), and Watchbird AS.

Small drones are getting cheaper. Swarms are getting harder to stop. How should air defence systems respond?

SENTINEL-EMP (EU project) is exploring new approaches to detecting, tracking and neutralising emerging drone threats through advanced sensing, data fusion and EMP-based soft-kill concepts.

The first project newsletter is now available.

Italy joins the FAMOUS 3 programme
Patria welcomed Italian partners IDV, a Leonardo company, and MBDA as well as the Italian National Armaments Director Admiral Ottaviani, to our stand at Eurosatory.

Improving the mobility and performance of land troops is a key priority in the long-term development of defence across EU countries. We look forward to continued cooperation with Italy, as discussions related to Patria TRACKX also continue.

theoderich hat geschrieben: Di 11. Feb 2025, 20:05On 28-29 January, the kick-off meeting for the Europen Defence Fund’s European Counter Unmanned Aerial Systems (E-CUAS) project, led by Leonardo, took place in Rome, Italy.

The #ECUAS project aims to design and develop fully functional counter-drone (#CUAS) prototypes, validating them in air defence scenarios relevant to the participating armed forces. These systems will integrate various sensors, such as radar, optical, acoustic, radio frequency, Command and Control (C2) and various effectors to detect, identify, track, support engagement and decision-making, and neutralize small drone threats (Class 1 UAS, up to 150 kg).

Among the attendees of the meeting were representatives of the ECUAS Consortium, comprising 25 companies from 13 EU countries (Italy, Spain, France, Belgium, the Netherlands, Denmark, Germany, Austria, Lithuania, Estonia, Sweden, Norway, and Greece). Also present were the Project Officer from the European Commission - DEFIS, the Project Manager from the Italian Ministry of Defence (Ministero della Difesa) - Secretariat of Defence - IV Department, who coordinates the community of European Ministries of Defence (MoDs) sponsoring and co-funding the project, as well as representatives from the participating MoDs.
