Planungen der Streitkräfte sehen vor ein Panzerbataillon aufzustellen. Dieses soll voraussichtlich mit Leopard-2-Kampfpanzern aus deutscher Produktion ausgestattet werden. Zusätzlich sollen nun auch kettenbasierte Schützenpanzer beschafft werden, um die zukünftigen Kampfpanzer zu komplementieren. Dies gab der litauische Verteidigungsminister Laurynas Kasčiūnas übereinstimmenden Medienberichten zufolge am 2. Juli bei einem Truppenbesuch bekannt.
Mit Blick auf die nun anstehende zweite Phase sagte Verteidigungsminister Kasčiūnas laut dem litauischen Medium LRT: „Wir machen weiter mit Kettenfahrzeugen, weil wir ein Panzerbataillon bilden.“ Die Anzahl werde sich dabei nach der Haushaltslage richten müssen, so der Minister weiter. Welchen Schützenpanzer die Litauer haben wollen sei noch nicht klar, schreibt LRT, da man im Verteidigungsministerium noch in der Analysephase sei.
Nach Schweden, Norwegen, Dänemark, der Schweiz, Finnland, den Niederlanden, Estland, Tschechien und der Slowakei wird Litauen damit der zehnte Nutzer in Europa.
On 19 November, Sweden’s Minister for Defence Pål Jonson met with Lithuania’s Minister of Defence Laurynas Kačiūnas. During the meeting, a Letter of Intent (LOI) on strengthened defence cooperation between Sweden and Lithuania was signed.
Lithuania has shown interest in acquiring CV90 combat vehicles. There is an ongoing dialogue between the Swedish Defence Materiel Administration and their Lithuanian counterpart regarding a joint acquisition of CV90 combat vehicles, together with Sweden and potentially, additional partners.

Torsdag undertegner forsvarsministerne fra de seks landene en intensjonserklæring om anskaffelsessamarbeidet. Signeringen skjer i forbindelse med forsvarsministermøtet ved NATOs hovedkvarter i Brüssel.
Technical agreement on the Nordic Programme for CV90 MkIV acquisition signed in Helsinki
Six participants of the Nordic Programme for CV90 MkIV acquisition signed a technical agreement in Helsinki marking a new milestone in the joint multinational procurement where Lithuania takes part alongside Finland, Sweden, Norway, Estonia, and the Netherlands.
The document signed by representatives of the Defence Materiel Agency details principles of cooperation, technical requirements and a coordinated action plan in the run-up to the signature of the main contract planned in early 2026.
“We continue to work intensely to accelerate the implementation and achieve the most uniform configuration of the vehicles possible across all partners. This is an excellent example of cooperation among regional partners enabling good and quick results. Delivery of the CV90s to Lithuania and other partners is planned starting 2028,” says Minister of National Defence Robertas Kaunas.
Lithuania is purchasing 100 Swedish CV90 MkIV infantry fighting vehicle, according to the State Defence Council
Lithuania joins five other NATO Allies in a joint procurement to acquire 100 Swedish CV90 MkIV infantry fighting vehicles. Today the decision was approved by the State Defence Council with a particular focus on commitment to production of technical components and CV90 MkIV maintenance service here in Lithuania to be included in subsequent acquisition contracts.
Lithuania signed the Statement of Intent on CV90 procurement with other five NATO Allies back in June. The signature was followed by a technical agreement the six members of the Nordic CV90 MkIV Infantry Fighting Vehicle acquisition programme entered in Helsinki in late November marking a milestone in a multinational acquisition conducted by Lithuania, Finland, Sweden, Norway, Estonia and the Netherlands.
The technical agreement provided concrete guidelines on collaboration principles, technical parameters and agreed Action Plan to be implemented ahead of signature of the main contract planned in early 2026. The CV90 are planned to be delivered to Lithuania and other programme participants starting 2028.
