Macron speeds up Rafale warplane orders as France invests in nuclear deterrence

President Emmanuel Macron said France would order additional Rafale warplanes in the coming years and invest nearly 1.5 billion euros ($1.6 billion) into one of its air bases to equip its squadrons with the latest nuclear missile technology.

The base will host the latest Rafale S5 fighter jets, which will carry France's next-generation ASN4G hypersonic nuclear-armed cruise missiles, which are intended to be operational from 2035 onwards, French officials said.

The French air force will also receive additional Dassault-made (AM.PA), opens new tab Rafale warplanes, in part to replace the Mirage jets France has transferred to Ukraine, Macron said.
"We are going to increase and accelerate our orders for Rafales," he said.

French officials said the 1.5 billion euros were part of the already approved multi-year military spending plan.

Vergangene Nacht ging erstmals eine Dassault Rafale im Kampfeinsatz verloren. Das Flugzeug wurde bei Angriffen der indischen Armee auf Ziele in Pakistan abgeschossen. Über das Schicksal des Piloten ist nichts bekannt. (Quelle)

Interessant auch, dass die Rafale vermutlich von einer chinesischen PL-15 aus großer Entfernung getroffen wurde. Die Chinesen bauen jetzt offensichtlich leistungsfähige AA-Lenkwaffen.

Dassault ready to unveil Neuron-successor UCAV for French air force

The French air force’s future unmanned combat air vehicle (UCAV) will break cover during the Paris air show, with developer Dassault Aviation to reveal a model of the type within its static display.

France announced the project last October, when armed forces minister Sebastien Lecornu detailed its plan to field the capability for operational use from 2033.

“A pre-development contract is ongoing,” General Arvind Badrinath, head of combat air for France’s DGA defence procurement body, told FlightGlobal in a pre-show interview. “The next phase is to launch the development activity that will lead to a first prototype.”

While the future operational asset will be a large platform, with a maximum take-off weight of over 10t, Paris will not require a technology demonstrator to support its development.

“We consider that Neuron was the demonstrator,” Badrinath says, referring to the Dassault-led UCAV testbed that debuted in December 2012 and went on to accumulate more than 170 flights.
