Slovenia picks howitzers, air defense systems and armored vehicles
On July 12, the Slovenian and French defense leaders signed a letter of intent under which the nation will take part in the European joint procurement of truck-mounted Caesar 155 mm self-propelled howitzers, made by KNDS, and Mistral air defense systems.
“The signing of the letter of intent will initiate all the necessary procedures at the Ministry of Defence for the eventual procurement and introduction of entirely new weapon systems into the Slovenian Armed Forces,” a Slovenian government statement reads.
Ljubljana aims to secure funds from the European Union to finance “the construction of joint military capabilities” together with other member states, according to the statement.

This week, Diehl Defence CEO Helmut Rauch welcomed the Slovenian National Armaments Director Željko Kralj at our site in Überlingen.
In January 2024, #Slovenia decided to procure the IRIS-T SLM air defence system as part of the European Sky Shield Initiative (#ESSI). Therefore, the visit started with a brief overview and status report on this ongoing procurement project. Afterwards our specialists in the field of Kinetic Defence Systems and Protection Systems presented two further product highlights: the Smart Loitering Ammunition LIBELLE and the Diehl Defence Counter UAS systems.
Mil Sistemika, a Slovenian defense technology company, has been awarded a prestigious contract by the Slovenian Ministry of #Defense (MOD) to integrate the IRIS-T air defense missile system. The project aims to enhance the country's defense capabilities by modernizing its air defense infrastructure.
Under the agreement, Mil Sistemika will provide advanced integration solutions, ensuring the #IRIS-T system operates seamlessly with Slovenia's existing #military platforms and upcoming #MANGART 25 - a state-of-the-art remote controlled #SHORAD / multifunctional turret .
