Selbstschutz: Der Ulan ist rundum gegen 7,62mm Projektile und
Splitterwirkung geschützt - im Bereich der vorderen 60° auch
gegen panzerbrechende 14,5 mm Geschosse. Der Panzerschutz kann so verstärkt
werden, dass er überall 14,5 mm auf 500m und frontal 30 mm Projektilen
auf 1.000m standhält. Die Turmfront kann durch eine keilförmige
Zusatzpanzerung gegen 30mm verstärkt werden.

Infantry Fighting Vehicle / Mechanised Infantry Combat Vehicle. The
Ulan is the Austrian variant of the ASCOD - the result of a co-operation
between two European companies specialized in the development of armoured
vehicles - the Steyr-Daimler-Puch Spezialfahrzeug AG (AUT) and the Spanish
General Dynamics / Santa Barbara Sistemas (GDSBS). The Spanish variant
is called "Pizarro". The Austrian Armed Forces ordered 112
vehicles with the stabilized Steyr SP-30 two-man-turret in 1999. The
first vehicles were delivered in 2002.
