Serbiens MiG-29SM+ zeigt komplettes Waffenarsenal

Bis dahin, und vielleicht auch darüber hinaus, bleiben die Mikojan MiG-29SM für die Serben unerlässlich. Genau deshalb gab es für die betagten Maschinen ein Upgrade – MiG-29SM+.

Das kleine südosteuropäische Land Serbien zählt mit 14 Jets neben Bulgarien, der Ukraine und Polen zu den letzten europäischen Nutzern der zweistrahligen Kampfflugzeuge.

Die serbischen MiGs können nun allerdings einiges mehr als bei ihrer Indienststellung. Was genau das ist, hat die Luftwaffe neun Jahre nach dem Start des Modernisierungsprogramms erstmals öffentlich demonstriert. Über den Auftritt und die dabei gezeigte Bewaffnung berichtete als Erstes das serbische Portal Tango Six, das auch die Fotos von der Veranstaltung veröffentlichte.

Bei der Veranstaltung wurden Kampfjets der 101. Jagdfliegerstaffel gezeigt. Eine der Maschinen war komplett mit Luft-Luft-Bewaffnung bestückt, die andere trug ausschließlich Luft-Boden-Waffen, die jetzt erstmals offiziell zu sehen waren.

Bei der aktuellen Präsentation waren erstmals am Boden die russische Anti-Radar-Rakete Ch-31P sowie die fernsehgelenkte Präzisionsgleitbombe KAB-500Kr zu sehen.

Neben diesen Systemen wurden an der MiG-29SM+ außerdem Bomben vom Typ BETAB-500 sowie ein Startbehälter B-8M1 gezeigt, der zwanzig ungelenkte Raketen des Typs S-8 im Kaliber 80 Millimeter fasst.

Ein "Flugzeugträger-Killer"

Eine der Waffen aus chinesischer Fertigung hatte bei Beobachtern bereits im März für Aufsehen gesorgt. Der chinesische Marschflugkörper CM-400AKG war damals unter den Tragflächen einer serbischen MiG-29 im Umfeld des Fliegerhorsts Batajnica fotografiert worden.

Serbia revealed as EU country behind $1.64b weapons deal with Israel’s Elbit

Serbia opens factory to build Israeli UAVs

Serbia's President Aleksandar Vučić announced the opening of the first factory in Serbia that will manufacture Israeli-designed unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) on 17 September.

He posted short video clips to his social media channels showing him at the factory, which is run by a previously unknown company called SDS Technologies. Employees of the company showed him a partially assembled quadcopter and a completed one in a testing area that enabled it to be manoeuvred in and around a simulated building.

“The plans are big. I'm only showing a small part of what I'm allowed to show,” Vučić said in one post. “We believe that with our Israeli partners we will open at least three more factories across Serbia.”

In a telephone interview with Serbia's Informer newspaper on the same day, Vučić said the factory is building Lanius-X UAVs and there are plans to also build FireFox and Magni UAVs.

The Lanius-X small quadcopter made by the Israeli company Elbit Systems matches the type seen at the SDS Technologies factory. Elbit describes it as a first-person-view (FPV) UAV that can reconnoitre buildings and can be fitted with a warhead so it can be used as a one-way-attack (OWA) weapon.

Elbit advertises the FireFox-X as an FPV OWA UAV that is controlled via a fibre-optic cable with a range of up to 15 km to make it immune to jamming.

Serbia has already developed a similar UAV called the Komarac (mosquito), which Vučić acknowledged was cheaper than its Israeli counterparts.

The president also described the Magni, which is another quadcopter made by Elbit, as “extremely important” as it is used for reconnaissance.

Although cooperation with Elbit Systems, which BIRN had previously reported on, has now been confirmed, the company whose premises will house the production is called SDS Technologies.

BIRN’s investigation shows that the drone assembly facility is located in Belgrade’s Makiš neighborhood, while the owner of SDS Technologies is the London-based company CUPA Limited.

The name SDS Technologies appeared in Serbia’s business registry several hours after the facility was opened, but not as a newly established company. Instead, it was the new name of CUPA Enterprises, a company registered last year for “satellite telecommunications.”

Despite Vučić’s earlier announcements that Serbia and Israel would share ownership equally, the current ownership structure of SDS Technologies does not reflect this. SDS is owned by the London-based company CUPA Limited, which is majority-owned by Greek citizen Atanasios Ramos, who is unknown to the wider public.

On the day the factory was opened, SDS Technologies appointed two new directors. One of them is Zion Amir, a prominent Israeli lawyer who also represents Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu before the Supreme Court of Israel.

BIRN previously reported, based on documentation reviewed by its journalists, that Serbia and Elbit had planned to open a drone factory in Šimanovci, in premises owned by Željko Mitrović. Mitrović denied this, while BIRN says this suggests that the factory’s location was under consideration for a long time and that plans changed during the process.

BIRN journalists visited the Makiš facility several months ago, based on information from two independent sources, but at the time they did not have evidence confirming that a drone assembly facility would be opened at that particular location.

The factory is located among numerous commercial warehouses, and there was nothing on the outside to indicate that a security-sensitive technological process was taking place there.

The name SDS Technologies was displayed at the gate to the property, although at the time it was not possible to find a company under that name in the business registry.
