First Fire Unit Grifo - Short‑Range Air Defence (SHORAD) systems – delivered to Italian Army
#Sabaudia/ #Italy, 22 January 2026 – The OCCAR (Organisation for Joint Armament Co-operation) FSAF-PAAMS Programme Division has announced the achievement of a significant milestone with the successful delivery of the first Fire Unit Grifo - Short‑Range Air Defence #SHORAD) systems to the Esercito Italiano - Italian Army.
This is another important step accomplished for the Italy after the delivery of the first #MAADS for the Italian Air Force in 2025. The handover ceremony took place on 22 January, 2026 at the Santa Barbara Barracks in Sabaudia, home to the Italian Army’s Air Defence Artillery Command.
Second MAADS Fire Unit Delivered to the Italian Air Force
OCCAR (Organisation for Joint Armament Co-operation) is pleased to announce the successful delivery of the second MAADS (Medium Advanced Air Defence System) Fire Unit to the Aeronautica Militare Italian Air Force.
The delivery also includes additional maintenance and support equipment, the first Direct Support Unit, and the MAADS simulator for operator training. Testing and verification activities were conducted at Rivolto Air Base (Udine) in close cooperation with the Italian Air Force, the OCCAR FSAF-PAAMS Programme Division, and MBDA Italia.
