BSDA 2026: LIG nears completion on Chiron contract for Romania

The Republic of Korea's LIG Defence & Aerospace has nearly fulfilled its November 2023 contract for the delivery of Chiron man-portable air defence systems (MANPADS) to the Romanian Land Forces. This was announced at a ceremony marking the occasion at the Black Sea Defense Aerospace (BSDA) exhibition held in Bucharest from 13-15 May 2026.

Soo Jin Kang, Business Manager for LIG's European market, told Janes at the exhibition that the final shipment is scheduled for completion by the end of May 2026. This delivery will fulfil the overall order, which includes 54 launchers and 162 missiles, according to Kang. In addition, LIG representatives outlined the additional services provided in the contract, including the transfer of several Chiron simulators for the land forces, the transfer of technical documentation, and the training of technicians for equipment maintenance.

LIG representatives also outlined ongoing discussions with the Romanian Ministry of National Defence on increasing the number of Chirons within the land forces inventory.
