Bei der "Plataforma Naval Multifuncional" handelt es sich ein Mehrzweckschiff, das u.a. zur Seeüberwachung, für ozeanografische Untersuchungen (z.B. bei Umweltkatastrophen wie Ölpesten oder massenweisem Auftreten von Algen, Plastikmüll oder Quallen) oder zu Untersuchungen der Meeresökologie dienen soll. Dazu soll es u.a. auch mit UAVs und UUVs ausgestattet werden. Es wurde am 21. Dezember 2021 genehmigt und am 23. Juni 2022 initiiert. Der Projektabschluss ist mit einem Gesamtbudget von 94,5 Mio. EUR für den 31. 12. 2025 vorgesehen.
Das dürfte in Europa ein einzigartiges Konzept sein. Die italienische Marine verfolgt mit dem Nave Idro Oceanografica Maggiore ebenfalls ein Projekt für ein ozeanografisches Forschungsschiff, das von vergleichbarer Größe (Länge: ca. 105 m, Breite: ca. 18 m; Verdrängung: ca. 5000 t) aber hinsichtlich der Ausstattung nicht annähernd so ambitioniert ist:

Das portugiesische Verteidigungsministerium hat einen Vertrag über sechs Navios Patrulha Oceânicos (NPO) abgeschlossen. Diese sollen vier NPO der “Viana do Castelo"-Klasse ersetzen und z.B. zur Bekämpfung des Drogenhandels oder für SAR eingesetzt werden.
EID supplies the entire C4i solution for the new Multipurpose Vessel of the Portuguese Navy built by DAMEN
EID has signed a contract with Damen Shipyards Group of the Netherlands, for the communications systems to be placed on board of the Portuguese Navy´s new MultiPurpose Vessel (MPV), built by DAMEN. This contract is not only for the Integrated Communication System (ICS), but also, for the first time, for the supply of the ship’s entire network.
The new generation ICS, completely developed, produced and supplied by EID, is designed to improve the efficiency and safety of communication operations on board naval vessels.
In addition, EID will also be supplying for this project the underwater telephone (UWT) from the German company ELAC, one of Cohort’s other subsidiaries.
Türkiye's STM in first with Portuguese support ship contract
Turkish shipbuilder STM secured a contract for the design and build of two Auxiliary Oiler Replenishment (AOR) and Logistics Support Ships for the Portuguese Navy, the company announced on 17 December.
The contract marks Türkiye's first military ship export to a European Union and NATO member state. Construction is set to begin in 2025 with delivery expected to take place in 2028.
Under the AOR+ Project (Navio Reabastecedor de Esquadra e Logístico: NRE+), STM will act as the main contractor, with the ships built in a private Turkish shipyard under STM's project management.
With a length of 137.06 m, a beam of 19.1 m, a draught of 6.7 m, and a displacement of 11,000 tonnes, the vessels are designed for versatile operational roles.
They will have a range of 14,000 n miles at a cruising speed of 14 kt, with a maximum speed of 18 kt with diesel propulsion and 6 kt with electric propulsion.
Each ship will have an endurance of 90 days, with 50 crew, accommodation for 50 extra personnel, and temporary accommodation for another 100 on top of that.
