Modern Radios Transform Army Communications
A successful handover of the Multi-Mode Radio capability marks a new era in secure, interoperable tactical communications for the Field Army.
The Land Environment Tactical Communication and Information Systems (LETacCIS) Programme has successfully handed over the Multi-Mode Radio (MMR) capability to the Field Army, marking a major step in modernising Defence communications.
Initiated in 2021, the project replaced outdated radios with advanced L3Harris AN/PRC-167 and AN/PRC-163 systems, offering secure, interoperable, and resilient communications across multiple domains.
Formally accepted in September 2025, the capability is now a Core Asset, fully supported through-life.

This equipment will enable Belgian military personnel to detect, recognize, and identify targets at various distances during daytime, in complete darkness, and in adverse weather or low-visibility conditions. Before initiating the procedure, the market is consulted to identify potential tenderers and determine the acquisition strategy.
