General Dynamics European Land Systems to Supply Amphibious Bridge and Ferry System to Latvia
General Dynamics European Land Systems (GDELS) announced today it has agreed to provide the M3 Amphibious Bridge and Ferry System to Latvia. Latvia will be the newest NATO customer to receive the system.
The contract was awarded to GDELS by the U.S. Army Contracting Command, Detroit Arsenal, which is managing the support to Latvia as it addresses needs for additional NATO wet-gap crossing solutions. Deliveries will also include an integrated logistics support package consisting of training, tools and manuals.

Description
The Army Contracting Command-Detroit Arsenal (ACC-DTA) awarded a one-time, Firm Fixed Price (FFP), sole source requirements contract to General Dynamics European Land Systems (GDELS) of Kaiserslautern, Germany for the procurement of four M3 Amphibious Bridge Vehicles and ancillary kits for the Latvian Armed Forces.
Das Brückensystem M3 wird beim 54. kaujas atbalsta bataljonā eingeführt. Es gibt mindestens zwei Flüsse in Lettland, die ein solches System zur Überquerung erforderlich machen (Die Düna und die Lielupe.). Offenbar wird das Personal für die neue Einheit erst aus Soldaten und Mitgliedern der Nationalgarde rekrutiert.
Als integraler Bestandteil der Deutschlandstrategie "24/500" kündigt GDELS–Bridge Systems einen weiteren umfassenden Ausbau seiner Produktionsstandorte in Kaiserslautern und Sembach an. Mit Investitionen in Höhe von über 20 Millionen Euro allein im kommenden Jahr sowie der Schaffung von rund 400 neuen Arbeitsplätzen bis 2029 setzt das Unternehmen ein starkes Zeichen für seine langfristige Bindung an den Wirtschaftsstandort Rheinland-Pfalz und insbesondere an die Region Kaiserslautern.
Ein zentrales Projekt ist dabei der Ausbau einer Produktionshalle des Kaiserslauterner Opel-Geländes zu einer Fertigungsstätte unter anderem für Schwimmbrücken. Parallel wird am Hauptsitz die Produktionskapazität für das Amphibienfahrzeug #M3 verdoppelt.
