The Polish Ministry of National Defence (MND) is looking to acquire 24 new helicopters and their associated simulators and training services to replace a similar number of PZL SW-4 Puszczyk helicopters.

Airbus Helicopters told Janes that the MND would own the H145Ms, although it noted that no type selection had yet been made. Other parties expected to have responded to Poland's requirement include Leonardo with its AW119Kx Koala and Bell with its 505 JetRanger X. The new training helicopters will be operated out of the Polish Air Force University in Dęblin.

Poland sets course for Black Hawk helicopter procurement

The Polish Armament Agency (AA) has launched a tender for the procurement of Lockheed Martin S-70i Black Hawk helicopters for the country's army.

The announcement comes weeks after Shephard’s initial report on Poland’s interest in acquiring domestically built Armed Black Hawk helicopters.

The agency did not reveal the number of rotorcraft it is looking to purchase, but a few days earlier, representatives of Polish PZL Mielec, a Lockheed Martin company, said they hoped to sign a contract for 32 helicopters.

The AA mentioned that the Black Hawks will be used by the Air Assault Force. This formation consists of the 6th Airborne Brigade, the 25th Air Cavalry Brigade and the 1st Army Aviation Brigade – of which only the latter two operate helicopters.

The 1st Brigade uses Mi-24s, which will be replaced by AH-64E Apaches soon. The first eight of these will be loaned by the US Army and should be delivered next month for training purposes.

The 25th Air Cavalry Brigade uses old Mi-2 helicopters which need urgent replacement, and the somewhat younger W3 Sokół aircraft. Core transport capabilities are provided by Mi-8Ts and Mi-17s.

According to the AA's statement, the Black Hawks will be operating in conjunction with Apaches, indicating their potential use as armed rotorcraft assets to provide support to the 1st Army Aviation Brigade.

Die polnische Rüstungsagentur hat den Beschaffungsprozess für 32 weitere S-70i abgebrochen - entgegen Aussagen der Opposition wurde kein Kaufvertrag gekündigt, weil es diesen noch nicht gegeben hat. Im Rahmen des Entwicklungsprogramms 2025-2039 seien die Prioritäten geändert worden. Stattdessen wurden folgende neue Programme aufgenommen:

Successful SPIKE NLOS LIVE FIRE from AH-64E Campaign by US Army & Polish Air Force

The United States Army, in cooperation with the Inspectorate of the Polish Air Force and with support from Rafael Advanced Defense Systems, conducted a live fire campaign of the SPIKE NLOS (Non-Line-of-Sight) missile system from an AH-64E Apache attack helicopter at the Central Air Force Training Range in Ustka, Poland.

The campaign was organized under the direction of U.S. Army, which deployed AH-64E Apaches from the 12th Combat Aviation Brigade, headquartered in Ansbach, Germany, to Poland for training and evaluation. The exercise was hosted by the Polish Ministry of National Defence (MoND) with participation from the General Staff of the Polish Armed Forces and the Inspectorate of the Polish Air Force.

Observers from over ten allied nations, attended the event, alongside senior commanders from multiple NATO air forces.

During the campaign, two SPIKE NLOS missiles were launched from U.S. Army AH-64E Apaches at maritime targets, achieving direct hits at ranges of 26 kilometers.

U.S. Army tests spike missile from AH-64 in Poland

The United States Army, in close cooperation with the Polish Air Force Inspectorate, successfully completed a joint live fire campaign of the Spike NLOS missile system from a U.S. Army 12th Combat Aviation Brigade AH-64Ev6 Apache Guardian helicopter.

The campaign, held on the northern coast of Poland, marked an important milestone for allied long-range precision strike capabilities. During the campaign, two Spike NLOS missiles engaged sea-based targets at distances of up to 25 kilometers, demonstrating precision strike accuracy and flexible target engagement from a rotary-wing platform.
