Australia signs long-range precision strike missile agreement with the United States
Australia and the United States have signed a Memorandum of Understanding for PrSM production, sustainment and follow-on development.

The MoU provides the ADF access to PrSM munitions and establishes PrSM as a cooperative program between Australia and the United States. This opens the door for Australian industry participation in the PrSM supply chain, including for locally manufactured components and sub-components.

The MoU also provides options for future domestic manufacturing and maintenance of PrSM in Australia, with negotiations on options expected to commence later this year.
Defence is contributing approximately $310 million over 10 years to become a full cooperative partner in the PrSM program. Defence will also invest around $150 million over the next five years to acquire the initial quantities of the capability required to establish the first Long Range Fires Regiment.

Australian-made HIMARS missiles to first fire in 2025
Domestic manufacturing is set to fly off the shelf via Lockheed Martin’s local rocket-making shop, in a $37 million tech-transfer deal.
JULIAN BAJKOWSKI, JAN 17, 2024

Australia will be firing locally-made HIMARS-compatible guided missiles by 2025, after the Department of Defence sealed the deal with aircraft and weapons systems maker Lockheed Martin to transfer the technical manufacturing know-how for the lethal technology into domestic hands.

In an initial deal worth a modest $37.4 million, Lockheed Martin will hand over the smarts to make hundreds of Guided Multiple Launch Rocket System (GMLRS) missiles that have a range of around 70km and can be fired from the truck-mounted HIMARS (High Mobility Artillery Rocket System) launch platform that has gradually replaced conventional surface-to-surface ballistic artillery.

Hanwha Defence Australia (HDA) has welcomed the first three Australian-made AS9 Huntsman Self-Propelled Howitzers (SPH) made at the Hanwha Armoured Vehicle Centre of Excellence (H-ACE) in Victoria with Deputy Prime Minister the Hon. Richard Marles and other guests including supply chain partners from around the nation.

Joining the three vehicles (Batch 1 consisting of two AS9s and one AS10, made in South Korea) announced in February last year, these new vehicles represent high technology vehicle manufacturing coming back to the Geelong region.
