2023-2030 ist u.a. die Beschaffung einer minimalen Stückzahl von Radpanzern für ein mittleres Infanteriebataillon, Elemente einer mittleren Bataillonskampfgruppe und ein mittleres Aufklärungsbataillon geplant. Weiters Systeme zur indirekten Feuerunterstützung und Panzerabwehrsysteme. Darüber hinaus soll mit der Modernisierung der Panzertruppe begonnen werden (Ein "interessantes" Ansinnen, wenn man berücksichtigt, dass Slowenien 28 von 29 Kampfpanzern M-55S, die eingemottet waren, an die Ukraine abgegeben hat und auch die M-84 nicht aktiv sind.).
Ursprünglich ist man davon ausgegangen, dass die Ausstiegskosten 20 % des Vertragswerts ausmachen würden - nun sollen es nur 3,3 Mio. EUR sein. Die Gesamtkosten für das Projekt lagen somit bei 4.150.968,50 EUR inkl. MWSt.
Im Rahmen des neuen Projekts "Bojna kolesna vozila za izgradnjo srednjih sil Slovenske vojske" sollen 106 8x8-Radpanzer im Wert von 695.200.000 EUR inkl. MWSt. beschafft werden. Die Finanzierung erfolgt aus dem Budget des Verteidigungsministeriums. U.a. ist eine Aufklärungsausstattung für die neuen Radpanzer vorgesehen. Es sollen eine mittlere Bataillonskampfgruppe und ein mittleres Aufklärungsbataillon ausgestattet werden.
Im Vergleich zum Kauf von 45 GTK "Boxer" können mindestens 109 Mio. EUR inkl. MWSt. eingespart werden. Die Stückzahl der 8x8-Radpanzer wurde von ursprünglich geforderten 136 Fahrzeugen auf 106 Fahrzeuge reduziert und mit 30 gepanzerten Radfahrzeugen auf 4x4-Fahrgestellt ergänzt. Das reduziert die Kosten um mindestens 217 Mio. EUR inkl. MWSt.

Die Beschaffung soll als Regierungsgeschäft abgewickelt werden. Bei sehr optimistischen Annahmen könnte die erste mittlere Bataillonskampfgruppe 2027 einsatzbereit sein.
Slovenia picks howitzers, air defense systems and armored vehicles
On July 10, while he was taking part in the NATO Summit in Washington, Slovenian Prime Minister Robert Golob made another key declaration, announcing that his government plans to purchase new Patria AMV XP eight-wheel-drive vehicles for the armed forces.
“According to the prime minister, the contract could be finalized by the end of this year,” the defense ministry said in a statement.
The terms of the planned contract have not been officially announced. However, local broadcaster 24UR reported that Ljubljana is aiming to acquire 106 vehicles for some €695 million ($757 million).

V nadaljevanju je izpostavil tri ključna področja, o katerih sta spregovorila z ministrom Šarcem: “Proračunski razrez, ki je pripravljen za leti 2025 in 2026, ustreza mednarodnim obvezam Republike Slovenije do zavezništva. Predvidena sredstva bodo zadoščala za realizacijo vseh načrtov za modernizacijo Slovenske vojske na področjih kadrovske okrepitve in nakupa opreme. Odstop od projekta nakupa osemkolesnikov Boxer se zaključuje. Postopki so trajali skoraj dve leti, kot najustreznejši ponudnik se za zdaj izkazuje finsko podjetje Patria.”
V nadaljevanju izjave je premier dr. Golob pojasnil, da med ministrstvoma za obrambo Republike Slovenije in Republike Finske potekajo pogajanja.
Po premierjevih besedah bi bila lahko pogodba zaključena predvidoma do konca tega leta.

139th regular session of the Government of the Republic of Slovenia
The Government took note of and discussed the information about the activities of the Ministry of Defence relating to the project of combat vehicles to build the medium forces of the Slovenian Army, agreeing that the Ministry carries out a public procurement procedure to purchase 106 8x8 wheeled combat vehicles, procuring 53 vehicles in the first stage of the project to equip a medium combat reconnaissance battalion. Pursuant to point 5, paragraph six of Article 30 of the Act Regulating the Implementation of the Budgets of the Republic of Slovenia for 2025 and 2026, the Government instructed the Ministry of Defence to obtain the Government’s approval before concluding a framework agreement to purchase 106 8x8 wheeled combat vehicles and confirming the purchase of 53 8x8 wheeled combat vehicles to build a medium combat reconnaissance battalion. 53 8x8 wheeled combat vehicles to equip a medium combat reconnaissance battalion are to be purchased in the first stage of the project between 2025 and 2028, and an additional 53 vehicles to equip a medium battalion combat group in the second stage of the project between 2027 and 2030. By signing the framework agreement, the Ministry of Defence will assume the responsibility for purchasing 53 8x8 wheeled combat vehicles to equip a medium combat reconnaissance battalion. The purchase of 53 8x8 wheeled combat vehicles to equip a medium battalion combat group is expected to be confirmed in 2026 pursuant to the provisions of the framework agreement and upon the prior approval of the Government. The Government also adopted a resolution to provide the Committee on Defence of the National Assembly with all the information pertaining to the activities of the Ministry of Defence relating to the project of combat vehicles to build the medium forces of the Slovenian Army.
Slovenia and Finland have signed Letter of Intent on support for the procurement of 8x8 Armoured Modular Vehicles from Patria
Finnish Minister of Defence Antti Häkkänen and Slovenian Minister of Defence Borut Sajovic signed a Letter of Intent between Finland and Slovenia on support for the procurement of 8x8 Armoured Modular Vehicles (AMV) in Brussels on 13 February, 2025. The letter of intent between the Ministry of Defence of Slovenia and the Ministry of Defence of Finland was prepared jointly by the ministries.
With the intent, the participating nations state their shared willingness to cooperate, and that Slovenia will receive Finland’s support for the procurement of 8x8 Armoured Vehicles from Patria.
Slovenia procures Patria 8×8 AMVs with Finnish support
The first phase of Slovenia's AMV 8×8 procurement will involve the purchase of 53 of the vehicles to equip the Slovenian Armed Forces' medium combat reconnaissance battalion battlegroup (SrBIB), with implementation in 2025–28, and another 53 vehicles in 2027–30.
Asked by Janes whether Slovenian companies would be involved in equipping the vehicles, a Patria spokesperson declined on 17 February to comment amid ongoing negotiations. She noted that there is a reconnaissance variant of the Patria AMV XP 8×8 vehicle, mainly differing from the standard version in command, control, communications, computers, and intelligence (C4I).
