15 Leopard-Panzer für altes Sowjet-Gerät, das in die Ukraine geht: Deutschland vereinbart mit Slowakei Ringtausch
Nach Informationen von Business Insider aus Regierungskreisen liefert Deutschland 15 Kampfpanzer vom modernen Typ Leopard 2 an die Slowakei. Dabei soll das erste Fahrzeug noch in diesem Jahr nach in das osteuropäische Land gehen. Im Gegenzug liefert die Slowakei 30 Panzer aus Sowjetzeiten in die Ukraine. Der Ringtausch soll zeitnah in dieser Woche bekannt gegeben werden, heißt es.
Ukraine-Unterstützung: Panzer-Ringtausch mit Slowakei vorbereitet
Rüstungsstaatssekretär Benedikt Zimmer hat gemeinsam mit seinem slowakischen Amtskollegen Marian Majer eine Absichtserklärung zur Lieferung deutscher Kampfpanzer an die Slowakei unterzeichnet. Bei dem Ringtausch gibt die Slowakei Schützenpanzer an die Ukraine ab und erhält dafür Kampfpanzer aus Deutschland.
15 Kampfpanzer des Typs Leopard 2 A4 aus Beständen der Rüstungsindustrie – inklusive eines Munitions-, Ausbildungs- und Logistikpakets – werden an die slowakischen Streitkräfte geliefert. Die ersten Leopard-Panzer sollen bereits in diesem Jahr übergeben werden.
Slovakia signs G2G agreement with Finland on acquisition of Patria's 8x8 Armoured Modular Vehicles (AMV) XP
Slovak Defence Minister Jaroslav Naď and Finnish Defence Minister Antti Kaikkonen have brought the process of finalising a major modernisation programme for the Slovak Armed Forces to a conclusion. By signing the Agreement between the Government of the Slovak Republic and the Government of the Republic of Finland on the Acquisition of the Patria 8x8 Armoured Modular Vehicles (AMV) XP, they have confirmed Slovakia's purchase of 76 Patria 8x8 AMV XPs in the Slovak Turra-30 turret configuration with the 30mm GTS-30/A cannon.
Apart from the signing of the G2G Agreement, the signing of another two related contracts – a contract between the Ministry of Defence of the Slovak Republic and Patria as well as a contract between KONŠTRUKTA-Defence (a 100% state-owned JSC under the remit of the SVK MOD) and Patria – took place as the culmination of a series of meetings between experts.
Minister Kaikkonen confirmed that KONŠTRUKTA-Defence along with many other Slovak companies will be part of the project, whereas Finland is ready to transfer its know-how and technologies to enable them to manufacture the vehicles in Slovakia.
The head of the MOD pointed to the differences between the current and previous contract to purchase the 8x8 armoured fighting platforms. “The current price per vehicle is €4.675m, which means delivering €100,000 of savings against the cost of one vehicle quoted by the previous government. Given the time and inflation rate, this a tremendous success. Pluses include a more advanced cannon that is fully in line with NATO standards, in-built communication and information (CIS) systems, an integrated command and control (C2) system, an improvised explosive device (IED) jammer, and construction design improvements to give the vehicle an improved swimming capability. Also worth mentioning are the 5th Generation electrical circuits and digital instruments. Last but not least, Slovakiaʼs Turra turret will be more advanced, lighter and of better quality, too,” Minister Naď explained.
Under the G2G Agreement, the Ministry of Defence is slated to take delivery of its first of a total of 76 Patria AMV XPs as early as September 2023. The first eight Patria AMV XPs will be made in Finland, so that employees of the SVK companies involved can learn everything they need to know for the production of the vehicles. The rest of the platforms will be manufactured completely by SVK companies, with the first Slovak-made AMV XP expected to roll out of the assembly line in 2024 and the last one in 2027.
Dazu wäre ein Verwaltungsübereinkommen zwischen dem slowakischen und dem österreichischen Verteidigungsministerium erforderlich. Die Beschaffung der gebrauchten "Leopard" 2A4 ist mit der deutschen Bundesregierung vereinbart worden und im entsprechenden Vertrag ist, nach deutschen Angaben, auch die Ausbildung enthalten:

Im konkreten Fall werden nun 15 Kampfpanzer Leopard 2 A4 aus dem Bestand der Industrie an die Slowakei geliefert. Neben den Panzern geht es auch um Munition, Ersatzteile und die benötigte Ausbildung.
As stated by Col. Janiga, all wheeled and tracked IFVs are equipped with Rafael’s Spike missiles, however Maj.Gen. Pach added that, the Army modernisation goes hand in hand with its reorganisation, and among new units introduced in Army formations we find antitank units. This decision comes from lessons identified in the Ukrainian war, the Land Forces Commander saying that this unit might have Spikes as well as other types of antitank weapon systems, allowing to add further firepower to armoured formations. EDR On-Line understood this will come in the form of antitank companies, that might be equipped with vehicles of various types, such as 4×4, possibly equipped with loitering munitions.
Asked on possible agreements with neighbouring Czech Republic, which also selected the CV 90 as its future infantry fighting vehicle, Col. Janiga told EDR On-Line that talks are ongoing and that his organisation is awaiting the final decision from the Czech MoD on the selected calibre, 30 mm and 35 mm being the options. According to EDR On-Line sources the 35 mm seems to be the preferred calibre, and this might bring to full commonality between the two countries, that might generate savings in logistics and training, and also possibly bring to better interoperability at tactical level.
As for the main battle tank, the war in Ukraine modified the situation; for the time being Slovakia will receive 15 Leopard 2A4 from Germany, while keeping its 30 T-72M1 currently in service, however a standardisation on western equipment is the final aim, as mixing two different calibres within a single battalion would become a further logistic nightmare.
