In der Nacht vom 28. auf den 29. Juli ist die letzte C-295MW am Flughafen Prag-Kbely gelandet. Die Flotte der tschechischen Luftstreitkräfte von sechs Transportflugzeugen dieses Typs ist nun komplett.
Am 17. Januar war eine Delegation des tschechischen Verteidigungsministeriums auf der Base Aérea N.º 11 in Beja zu Besuch. Dabei informierte man sich u.a. über die Erfahrungen Portugals bei der Einführung der KC-390.
Zudem prüft Tschechien, Transportflugzeuge des Typs A400M zu beschaffen, wie sie die Deutsche Luftwaffe nutzt. Minister Pistorius attestierte den Maschinen eine beeindruckende Leistungsfähigkeit und nannte sie das Rückgrat der taktischen und strategischen Lufttransportfähigkeit Deutschlands. Sollte Tschechien sich für den A400M entscheiden, werde Deutschland mit Erfahrung und Know-how bei der Einführung zur Seite stehen, so Pistorius.
Das tschechische Verteidigungsministerium hat mit EMBRAER Verhandlungen über den Kauf von zwei C-390 Millennium aufgenommen.
Czech Republic intends to acquire two aircraft that will significantly increase its airlift capacity, allowing the Czech Army to perform missions such as air transport, air assault operations, aerial resupply, medical evacuation, humanitarian aid, air-to-air refueling and firefighting with these aircraft.
Czech ministers approved spending 11.3 billion Czech koruna ($490 million) for a pair of C-390s on Oct. 2, a year after selecting the Brazilian-made aircraft.
Defense Minister Jana Černochová said the need to acquire a new medium-sized airlifter was increasingly underlined by the deteriorating global security situation, noting evacuation missions from Afghanistan and Sudan.
As well as the aircraft and associated equipment, the Czech contract will include a Modular Aerial Fire Fighting System so that the aircraft can be employed to fight wildfires. An aerial refueling capability will also allow the Czech Air Force to refuel its Saab Gripens, albeit not its future fleet of Lockheed Martin F-35s. Prague is also purchasing a medical evacuation capability for the aircraft, an auxiliary fuel tank system to extend its range and a self-defense suite for both aircraft.
Delivery of the first aircraft will take place next year, Černochová said. The second will follow in 2027 or 2028.
The program will also bring benefits to Czech industry worth more than $80 million, officials said.
