Verbessertes PS-05/A-Radar für Gripen C/D (28. April 2015)

Für die neue Ausführung wird hinter der Antenne auch komplett neue Hardware verwendet. So werden laut Saab die Prozessorleistung gesteigert und die Verwendung flexibler Wellenformen möglich. In niedrigen Höhen soll so die Entdeckungsreichweite um 100 Prozent steigen.

Das PS-05/A Mk4 bietet eine volle Integration von AMRAAM- und Meteor-Lenkwaffen. Für letztere wurde der Downlink optimiert, so dass auch bei Datenübertragungen während langer Lenkwaffen-Flugphasen die Radarleistung nicht leidet.

Ungarn hat das Gripen C/D Leasing bis 2026 verlängert. Die Maschinen werden auf den Standard MS20 Block 2 aufgerüstet.

• Das Radar wird auf PS-05/A Mk 4 aufgerüstet - höhere target acquisition range, vor allem bei niedrig fliegenden Objekten (dazu: better detection capability of small air-to-air targets & improved clutter suppression). Bessere Performance im air-to-ground synthetic aperture radar (SAR) Modus. Neues Wachstumspotential erkauft man sich auch - bis hin zu einer künftig möglichen AESA Technologie.

• Upgrade Kommunikationssystem inkl. verbessertes Link16 (NATO Datalink) und aktueller NATO Standard bei Sicherheit. Identification Friend or Foe (IFF) NATO Mode 5.

• Durch das Upgrade ist die Nutzung von IRIS-T, METEOR, GBU-49 – dual-mode (GPS/SAL) air to ground laser-guided bombs, GBU-39 Small Diameter Bombs, etc. möglich.

• Flugstunden der Maschinen werden von 16.000 auf 20.000 erhöht.

Der ungarische Staat least die JAS 39 Gripen von Schweden. Die Flugzeuge werden 2026 in ungarisches Eigentum übergehen. Der Vertrag für die Aufrüstung wird deshalb vom schwedischen Rüstungsamt FMV an Saab erteilt.

Hungarian Baltic Air Policy rotation gets to its conclusion; a first balance of the Gripen four-month deployment

The Hungarian Air Force is looking at integrating new weapons on its Gripens, the aforementioned upgrade widening the possible ordnance portfolio to include IRIS-T and Meteor missiles, as well as GBU-49 laser guided bombs. Among pilot wishes a new AESA radar, and possibly the replacement of the “C” model with the “E” model, under delivery to Sweden and Brazil, might remain a dream at least for some time to come.

Saab receives Gripen order for Hungary

Saab has today signed a contract with the Swedish Defence Materiel Administration (FMV) and received an order for four additional Gripen C fighter aircraft for Hungary.

This order follows an amendment to the contract between FMV and the Hungarian Government signed in December 2001 regarding 14 Gripen C/D fighters for the Hungarian Air Force. The contract amendment for the four additional aircraft was signed by the Hungarian Ministry of Defence and FMV on 23 February 2024. With this new contract amendment, Hungary will operate a total of 18 Gripen C/D aircraft to protect and defend the Hungarian and NATO airspace.
