Another aspect of the reinforcement of our Special Operations Forces capability is the will to create a specialised SOF
Aviation based on four small Short TakeOff and Landing (STOL) aircraft which can operate from short and poorly prepared runways and have a relatively large range and unobtrusive nature which makes them suitable for SOF insertions and extractions and for resupplying. These aircraft can potentially be equipped for medical evacuations and for the support of Special Forces in the field of ISR and Close Air Support.

Investissement: quatre avions SOF (et éventuellement des kits SOF et des kits d’évacuation médicale NH90)

Ambition: 2 avions spécialisés SOF pendant 12 mois

Le SOR [SOR: Special Operations Regiment.] va continuer la transformation amorcée en se dotant en outre, d’avions à décollage et atterrissage court (Short Take Off & Landing – STOL) qui leur confèreront agilité, allonge opérationnelle grâce à des possibilités d’évacuation médicale, d’appui feu, de transport aérien et même de commandement et conduite (command and control). L’intégralité de la capacité des SOF constitue également un renforcement clair des possibilités belges de contribution au nouveau concept d’engagement de l’OTAN dans le cadre de la défense collective, comme par exemple avec la contribution au projet OTAN de Composite Special Operations Component Command (C-SOCC), ensemble avec le Danemark et les Pays-Bas.
