FFG Support Vehicles for Norway
Flensburger Fahrzeugbau Gesellschaft mbH (FFG) has won a tender for supply of a new generation of protected support vehicles for the Norwegian armed forces, the company announced on 30 May.

Besides the development and construction of the new Armored Combat Support Vehicle (ACSV), the contract also includes the supply of drive and protection packages for the M577 command post and other vehicles of the M113 family currently in Norwegian service. These modernisation solutions are based on the proven G4 power packs, a field in which FFG already has extensive experience in the development and integration of protection solutions for military vehicles.
Technically, ACSV is based on the PMMC G5, which was also developed by FFG and is already proven under the toughest conditions, including extensive tests in desert and deep snow.

FFG wins contract to supply the Armoured Combat Support Vehicle to Norway

Published on May 31, 2018

The Norwegian Defense Material Agency (NDMA) has awarded FFG Flensburger Fahrzeugbau Gesellschaft mbH with the contract to supply an Armoured Combat Support Vehicle (ACSV) and upgrades of mobility and protection on their M577 and M113 Family of Vehicles (FOV). The contract award for both is evidence of the trust between the partners, building on the experience of several successful projects.

The ACSV is a multi-role support platform on tracks that will be available as cargo version and as a closed version. The flexible layout of the cargo area allows the use of the ACSV as a carrier for containerized mission kits, e.g. for combat air defence, radars, or electronic warfare, and as cargo transport vehicle. Examples of the closed version variants include Command Post, APC, and Ambulance.

The ACSV is based on the technology of FFG’s PMMC G5 and combines outstanding mobility with a high level of protection for the crew and equipment. FFG has successfully tested the PMMC G5 in the desert and in deep snow conditions.

FFG will have the PMMC G5 on display, together with the WiSENT 2 in Armored Engineering Vehicle (AEV) configuration, at the Eurosatory in Paris booth K658 in hall 6.

The upgrade concept for the existing M577A2 uses the proven G4 Powerpack and FFG’s comprehensive experience in the development and integration of protection systems. FFG will include Norwegian Industry into the execution of the contract.

FFG is a medium-sized systemhouse with a staff of approx. 800 highly skilled and committed employees. Based on more than half a century of experience in maintenance, overhaul and upgrade of military vehicles, FFG has started the development of innovative and flexible combat support platforms in 2010. The Leopard 2-based support platform WiSENT 2 can be deployed as an Armoured Recovery Vehicle (ARV), AEV, for mine clearing and bridge laying, and can be converted from one configuration to another within a few hours. Four customer nations use the WiSENT 2 already today. The PMMC G5 is a tracked support vehicle platform that can be equipped with almost any mission kit. The huge interior space can be used in the most flexible way, allowing the modification of the vehicle also by the user, and providing outstanding protection and extensive growth potential.

FFG readies PMMC G5 ACSV prototype for Norway

Bild
Germany’s Flensburger Fahrzeugbau Gesellschaft (FFG) has been awarded its first contract for a version of its Protected Mission Module Carrier G5 (PMMC G5) by the Norwegian Defense Material Agency (NDMA).

The March 2018 contract award covers the supply of a prototype configured as an Armoured Combat Support Vehicle (ACSV). This is expected to be delivered to the NDMA in 2020 for user trials and could be followed by a production contract for up to 160 units.

The first example of the ACSV will have a hull of all welded aluminium armour with an optional applique passive armour package.

A customer-specified weapon remote weapon station (RWS) can be mounted on the roof. Norway will equip the prototype with the Kongsberg Protector armed with a stabilised 12.7 mm M2HB machine gun (MG), which is already installed on many Norwegian armoured fighting vehicles (AFVs) and support vehicles.

The PMMC G5 features a rear flatbed on which containers or pallets can be rapidly loaded using an onboard crane.

This version will also be used as a platform for containerised mission kits such as electronic warfare, air defence systems, and artillery locating radars.

The suspension is of the torsion bar type, which is complemented by Soucy International composite rubber tracks (CRT) that are lighter, quieter, and offer less vibration and rolling resistance compared with conventional steel tracks.
The ACSV will be powered by a MTU 199 TE 21 V6 diesel developing 625hp coupled to a ZF LSG 1000 HD automatic transmission, which will provide a maximum road speed of up to 74 km/h and a range of over 600 km.
