Defence Forces upgrade CV9030 infantry fighting vehicles (23. 6. 2021)
The Ministry of Defence has authorised the Defence Forces to sign an agreement with BAE Systems Hägglunds Ab, Sweden, to implement a mid-life extension of the Army's infantry fighting vehicles CV9030. The prototype and test series will be upgraded first while the remaining life-cycle upgrades will be carried out in 2022.

The Army procured the infantry fighting vehicles between 2002 and 2007, and the agreement will ensure their usability and lifecycle until 2035. The supplier is obliged to have the assembly work of the serial production phase carried out by a Finnish subcontractor.
The overall value of the procurement with options is about EUR 33 million excluding value added tax. The procurement will be financed by the funds for defence materiel procurement that are budgeted for this purpose.

Finnish Defence Forces – Millog safeguards Finnish security of supply in the Army’s mid-life upgrade of the CV9030 infantry fighting vehicles (23. Juni 2021)
BAE Systems Hägglunds Ab, the manufacturer of the vehicles, will subcontract a large part of this work from Millog Oy, a strategic partner of the Finnish Defence Forces.

It is planned that the mid-life upgrade will be designed and developed in Sweden. The prototypes will also be produced there. The pre-production series and serial work will in turn be done by Millog in Finland. The work to be performed by Millog will have an employment effect of around 23 person-years. The infantry fighting vehicles were acquired from Sweden between 2002 and 2007. With this mid-life upgrade, the Finnish Army will secure their availability until the 2030s.

BAE Systems has signed a contract with Finland to upgrade the Finnish Army’s fleet of CV90s. The agreement, worth up to $32 million USD with options, includes a mid-life extension program to increase the vehicles’ combat efficiency for the future battlefield.

The CV9030FIN prototype and test series vehicles will be upgraded first, with the remaining lifecycle upgrades carried out between 2022-2026. As part of the contract, BAE Systems Hägglunds, the original manufacturer of the CV90, will work closely with Finnish industry to upgrade the general availability and maintainability of the vehicle, further develop in-service safety, and enhance the system’s technology and software.

Finland upgrades CV90s
BAE Systems said the mid-life extension (MLE) would “increase the vehicles' combat efficiency for the future battlefield”. The Finnish Ministry of Defence (MoD) told Janes on 29 July that two CV9030FIN prototypes, three test series vehicles, and the first six series vehicles would be upgraded, with options to upgrade the remaining 91 IFVs. BAE Systems said the prototypes and test series vehicles would be upgraded first, followed by the remaining life-cycle upgrades in 2022–26.

The MLE aims to ensure the availability and extend the life cycle of the IFVs to the 2030s, improving the general availability and maintainability of the vehicle, further developing in-service safety, and upgrading the system's technology and software. Colonel Rainer Peltoniemi, the Finnish Army's Inspector of Infantry, explained that the upgrade “will make it possible to eventually have a more extensive mid-life upgrade performed on the vehicles during the latter part of their life cycle”.

The value of the order is significant, and the deliveries will take place over several years.

Senop is responsible for the development of the reserve sight and barrel camera.
