SOGITEC wins the tender for the supply of training equipment for the Guépard, the Joint Light Helicopter (JLH).

Sogitec has been notified by Airbus Helicopters of the contract concerning the simulation means for the training of the Guépard crews for the French Army (Armée de Terre), the French Navy (Marine Nationale) and the French Air Force (Armée de l’air et de l’espace). With its expertise in Multi-Role Training Device (MRTD), recognized and appreciated by all its users, Sogitec confirms its position as a supplier of training and simulation solutions within the helicopter field.

The Joint Light Helicopter program aims to equip the three French armed forces with a single helicopter model based on the H160 platform in a militarized version (H160M). Known as "Guépard", this helicopter will replace five different models currently in service with the forces (Gazelle, Alouette III, Dauphin, Panther, Fennec).

With the french Armament general directorate (DGA - Direction générale de l'armement) as prime contractor of the JLH program, Airbus Helicopters is the overall industrial prime contractor, which includes: development of the Guépard, delivery of 169 aircrafts (in 4 phases), supply of the support and training system, as well as support for ten years from delivery of the first helicopter to the armed forces.

Final assembly of first of three H160M prototypes to begin soon
Airbus Helicopters has increased the number of H160M Guepard prototypes it intends to build, with final assembly of the first of three examples set to begin shortly.

In development for all three branches of the French armed forces, the airframer originally planned for just two flight-test aircraft but has since “invested in an additional prototype”, says head of the H160 programme Gilles Armstrong.
Final assembly of the initial example will begin “soon”, he says, with the second following shortly behind.

De-risking activities began last year using a commercial H160 test aircraft, modified with representative profiles of military equipment, such as sensors and defensive aids, to check the aerodynamic performance of the helicopter.

That work is now almost complete, says Armstrong. “It’s about getting the aerodynamics right early in the context of the HIL development.”
All three prototypes will be in a “baseline” army configuration, with specific modifications for air force and navy helicopters to follow.
