AADS, last week signed a contract with the Italian Ministry of Defence to supply 210 Jeep Light Military 4x4 vehicles for operation by the Italian Army.

The vehicles are to be delivered over the next fifteen months, and the contract includes an option to purchase a further 210 vehicles thereafter. The contract includes 6 years of technical assistance and training.

AADS’ J8 light military vehicle is based on the new Jeep Wrangler. These and similar solutions have been supplied to eighteen countries, and the US Department of Defence has been an established customer for some years.

L’Esercito provvede a sostituire gli AR90 Land Rover Defender 90 con veicoli di ricognizione di moderna concezione e flessibilità operativa. La gara di appalto, aggiudicata per circa 15 milioni di euro prevede l’approvvigionamento di 2400 veicoli.

Il nuovo veicolo sarà fornito in due configurazioni: ‘leggera’ o base derivata come equipaggiamento dal segmento commerciale e ‘standard’. Quest’ultima deve incorporare gli equipaggiamenti per impieghi militari come gancio traino, vericello, impianto di riscaldamento supplementare tipo Webasto, la predisposizione per la protezione del personale e per l’imbarco di equipaggiamenti C2 e CIS.

In particolare, la versione ‘standard’ dovrà avere le predisposizioni per una radio AN/PRC-152A(V)4(C) con relativa antenna e tablet dedicato, nonchè una auxiliary power unit (APU) ricaricabile dall’alternatore che consenta di operare a motore spento e con gli apparati di comunicazione per almeno 6 ore.

LONDON, 1 October 2026 – The Italian Army and the Austrian Government have each awarded substantial contracts for the supply of INEOS Grenadiers. They represent the first orders from sovereign defence forces – a significant milestone for the brand.

The Grenadier became the vehicle of choice for the Italian Army, making Italy the first NATO country to place a sizable order for its military. ATflow, INEOS Automotive’s regional distributor will commence deliveries from early 2027.
