The Government of Romania has requested to buy thirty-two (32) F-35A Lightning II Joint Strike Fighter Conventional Take Off and Landing (CTOL) aircraft; and thirty-three (33) Pratt & Whitney F135-PW-100 engines (32 installed, 1 spare). The following non-MDE items will also be included: AN/PYQ-10 Simple Key Loaders (SKL); Identification Friend or Foe (IFF) equipment, secure communications, precision navigation, and cryptographic equipment; Cartridge Actuated Devices/Propellant Actuated Devices (CAD/PAD); multi-purpose missile equipment; ammunition and weapons components; aircraft and munitions support and support equipment; integration and test support and equipment; spare and repair parts, consumables and accessories, and repair and return support; training aids and devices, and spare parts; major and minor modifications, maintenance, and maintenance support; integrated computer system; electronic warfare data and Reprogramming Lab support; Electronic Combat International Security Assistance Program (ECISAP) software support; aircraft engine Component Improvement Program (CIP) support; classified and unclassified software and software development, delivery, and integration support; classified and unclassified publications and technical documentation; classified and unclassified personnel training, and training gear and equipment; transportation, ferry, and refueling support; facilities and construction support; studies and surveys; Contractor Logistics Support (CLS); U.S. Government and contractor engineering, technical, and logistics support services; and other related elements of logistics and program support. The estimated total cost is $7.2 billion.

Greece and Romania have both received P&As for 40 AURs & 10 AURs respectively.

Three F-16 Fighting Falcon aircraft purchased by Romania from the Kingdom of Norway landed on Friday, December 13th, at the 71st "General Emanoil Ionescu" Air Base at Câmpia Turzii, to equip the 48th Fighter Squadron.

With the three aircraft that landed today, the 48th Fighter Squadron operates a total of fifteen F-16 aircraft purchased by Romania from the Kingdom of Norway, alongside the related package of goods and services.

According to the Concept for the gradual building of the air defence capability, included within the "Air Force Multirole Aircraft" Program, the Government of Romania awarded the Government of the Kingdom of Norway the purchasing contract of 32 F-16 aircraft, with initial logistic support and a complementary package of goods and services (from the Government of the United States of America).

The aircraft will be delivered fully operational, their available resource enabling their operation for at least a 10 year-transition period to the 5th generation aircraft, which makes the purchase of the Norwegian fighters a transfer of capability between two allied NATO countries.

The Government of Romania has requested to buy four hundred (400) Guided Bomb Unit (GBU)-39B Small Diameter Bombs (SDB-I), and two (2) GBU-39 (T-1)/B inert practice bombs with fuze. The following non-MDE items will also be included: GBU-39 tactical training rounds; Common Munitions Built-In-Test (BIT)/Reprogramming Equipment (CMBRE); ADU-890E Computer Test Set Adapter Groups; containers, weapons system support, and support and test equipment; training aids, devices, and spare parts; consumables and accessories, and repair and return support; publications and technical data; personnel training and training equipment; warranties; transportation support; site surveys; U.S. Government and contractor engineering, logistics, and technical support services; and other related elements of logistics and program support. The estimated total cost is $84 million.
