Statement of the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Poland in connection with the statement by the US Secretary of State on providing airplanes to Ukraine

The authorities of the Republic of Poland, after consultations between the President and the Government, are ready to deploy – immediately and free of charge – all their MIG-29 jets to the Ramstein Air Base and place them at the disposal of the Government of the United States of America.

At the same time, Poland requests the United States to provide us with used aircraft with corresponding operational capabilities. Poland is ready to immediately establish the conditions of purchase of the planes.

The Polish Government also requests other NATO Allies – owners of MIG-29 jets – to act in the same vein.

Gab es eigentlich irgendwelche weiteren Berichte über die österreichischen Helme für die Ukraine? Wurden die geliefert? Ich konnte nichts aktuelles finden. Die letzten Berichte, die ich finden konnte, sind eine Woche alt.

UK plans to send anti-aircraft weapons to Ukraine, says Ben Wallace

Britain is planning to supply Starstreak anti-aircraft weapons and “a small consignment” of Javelin anti-tank missiles to Ukraine as Russian forces close in on Kyiv to the east, the defence secretary has said.

The UK would also continue to supply NLAW short-range anti-tank weapons, Ben Wallace told the Commons, and has already given Ukraine 3,615 of the portable missile systems – nearly double the 2,000 figure previously disclosed.

Wallace said Ukraine had already received “900 man-portable anti-air missiles” – a reference to Stingers supplied by other Nato countries – but was desperately seeking more arms as Russian forces attempted to encircle Kyiv.

“The capability needs strengthening,” Wallace said. “So in response to Ukrainian requests, the government has taken a decision to explore the donation of Starstreak high-velocity man-portable anti-air missiles.”

Later, in response to questions from MPs as to how long the supply decision would take, Wallace said: “We are in principle going to do it.” He acknowledged Ukrainian soldiers would need to be trained in how to use the missiles. “How we are doing it [training] is sensitive,” he added.

Die derzeit um MiG-29 aus Polen geführte Debatte halte ich, gelinde gesagt, für seltsam. Der Westen wird zum Wochenende an die 17.000 Panzer- und Flugabwehrhandwaffen in die Ukraine geliefert haben; und die Russen verzeichnen derzeit nach übereinstimmenden Regierungs- und OSINT-Quellen rund 450 Gefallene täglich. Hinzu kommen durchschnittlich 20-30 Verluste an gepanzerten Fahrzeugen, und 2-3 Starr- und Drehflügler – ebenfalls täglich. Zwei Dutzend vierzig Jahre alte MiGs, die sofort zu russischen Hochwertzielen würden, könnten im Leben nicht so viel Zerstörung anrichten, wie ein paar ukrainische Panzervernichtungs- oder Flugabwehrtrupps mit Ortskenntnis und einem Vorrat an NLAW, Javelin, PzF3 und Stinger.

Lieber Muck, ich kann mir schon vorstellen, daß die 28 polnischen MiG-29 einen Vorteil darstellen.
Sie sind als Objektverteidiger konzipiert und können anfliegende Jets und Helis früher sehen und bekämpfen.
So eine Manpad schaut ja net weit und die Reichweite ist auch sehr begrenzt.

Lieber Muck, ich kann mir schon vorstellen, daß die 28 polnischen MiG-29 einen Vorteil darstellen.
Sie sind als Objektverteidiger konzipiert und können anfliegende Jets und Helis früher sehen und bekämpfen.
So eine Manpad schaut ja net weit und die Reichweite ist auch sehr begrenzt.

In diesem Konflikt? Die Ukrainer melden deshalb einen Bedarf an Flugzeugen an, weil sie bereits fast alle entweder in der Luft oder am Boden verloren haben, ohne selbst allzu viel Schaden anzurichten. Man sollte sich von Wohlfühl-Stories wie dem "Ghost of Kyiev" nicht blenden lassen. Den effektivsten Widerstand entlang der ganzen Front leisten die Ukrainer vom Boden aus.

Ukraine conflict: Russian forces employ guided rockets

Evidence is emerging from the conflict in Ukraine appearing to show that Russian forces are utilizing guided rockets – the 9M544 and 9M549 – with video and photographs of the remains of these types appearing across social media.

The 9M544 and 9M549 are understood to be the latest guided rockets fired from Russia's Tornado-S system. According to official information, these have a range of 120 km and a circular error probable (CEP) of 5–10 m. Images of rocket fragments with the guidance and control unit code 9B706 have appeared in areas where the 9K515 Tornado-S multiple rocket launch (MRL) system has been active.

The guided rockets have achieved an increase in range and accuracy over earlier types by equipping the nose module with cruciform aerodynamic rudders and integrating the 9B706 control system with on-board radio-electronic equipment.The 9B706 uses the CH398M strapdown inertial navigation system (SINS), which receives data from angular velocity and linear acceleration sensors. This, along with the GLONASS modules (also integrated into the 9B706 control system unit), provides a real-time data feed to generate an optimal quasi ballistic flight path for the 9M544 and 9M549 rockets.

Furthermore, the rocket's apogee is in the upper layers of the stratosphere, thereby reducing drag and supporting the increase in range.

The marked increase in accuracy versus earlier rocket types – for example, 9M55K (HE Frag) and 9M528 (HE Frag - parachute retarded) rockets, which have standard electronic time devices and a CEP of 150 m – is primarily due to the combination of the CH938M SINS and GLONASS.
