The first vehicle manufactured for the Slovak Armed Forces is the Patria Ambulance (AMB) variant, which, following its finalisation and trials, will be the first to be accepted into service with the Slovak Army in 2024.

Despite the impact of the current situation in Ukraine on the delivery schedules for a large number of components used in the vehicle, the latest vehicle has been produced in the past 13 months since the signing of the contract documents in August 2022, Minister Sklenár pointed out.

A total of 76 Patria 8x8 AMV XP vehicles are expected to be delivered by 2027 in the following variants and numbers: 60 Infantry Fighting Vehicles (IFV), 10 Ambulances (AMB), and 6 Command Post (CP) vehicles.

The meeting regarding our joint project of the 8×8 combat armored vehicle for the Armed Forces of the Slovak Republic was inspiring and full of interesting discussions.

The highlight was the introduction of our “technological pearl” – the TURRA 30 tower, fully prepared for integration into the first Patria AMVXP 8×8 vehicle.

The LUMIBIRD Group (FR0000038242 - LBIRD), the European leader in laser technologies, announces that its subsidiary Lumibird Photonics Sweden AB has received two major orders from Saab AB for the OdiPro laser rangefinder to be used with the CV90 combat vehicle. The total order value is approximately SEK 130 million (€11.5m) and the contract period is 2024-2029.

Lumibird will provide the OdiPro laser rangefinder for the BAE System CV90 ordered by Slovakia and the Czech Republic in 2024. The work will be carried out in Gothenburg, Sweden.

The Ministry of Defence of the Slovak Republic plans to purchase more than 100 main battle tanks to form and equip two new tank battalions in the land forces. This announcement was made by officials representing the Slovak Ministry of Defence at the Future Armoured Vehicles Central & Eastern Europe conference, which took place on May 13-14 in Prague, Czech Republic.

However, according to a statement by Captain Jakub Murcek from the Modernization Department of the Slovak Ministry of Defence, the Slovak T-72 tanks will not be modernized.

Another 15 main battle tanks are Leopard 2A4s, which have been delivered to Slovakia by the German defence company Rheinmetall. These tanks were gifted to Slovakia by the government of Germany under the “Ringtausch” initiative, aimed at compensating for the donation of military equipment and weapon systems to Ukraine. According to Capt. Murcek, by the end of 2024, the Leopard 2A4 tanks will be fully integrated into the Slovak land forces.

At the Future Armoured Vehicles Central & Eastern Europe conference, Capt. Murcek said that in the coming years, the structure of the Slovak land forces will be reorganized. The Slovak Ministry of Defence plans to form two new tank battalions, each equipped with 52 newly procured main battle tanks. Capt. Murcek mentioned that the Slovak Ministry of Defence has not yet decided which type of tanks it will purchase. Offers from the industry are currently being evaluated by the ministry. However, he stated that an agreement for the new main battle tanks is expected to be signed this year or in 2025.
