Russia develops unmanned T-72s
Russian company Uralvagonzavod (UVZ) is developing two unmanned variants of the T-72B3 main battle tank (MBT), the Ministry of Defence (MoD) announced on its website on 12 August.

One variant “is a crewless combat vehicle with heavy weapons, the second is a crewless combat vehicle with automatic guns,” the MoD said.

UVZ chief designer Andrei Terlikov showed the robotic vehicles to Russian Defence Minister Sergei Shoigu when he visited Workshop 130, which produces all of Russia’s MBTs, on 12 August.

Russia’s latest Bumerang combat vehicles to enter state trials in 2020
The state trials of the latest armored personnel carrier and infantry fighting vehicle based on the Bumerang standardized wheeled platform will begin in the summer of 2020, the press office of Military Industrial Company (the platform’s developer and manufacturer) told TASS on Tuesday.

"According to the plan, we will enter the state trials in the summer of 2020," the press office said, replying to a question about the pace of the work on the Bumerang combat platform.

Military Industrial Company CEO Alexander Krasovitsky told TASS on December 3 that the company had completed jointly with the Defense Ministry the preliminary trials of the prototypes of the K-16 armored personnel carrier and the K-17 infantry fighting vehicle based on the latest Bumerang wheeled platform. The prototypes confirmed the characteristics stated in the combat vehicles’ technical specifications, he stressed.

Military Industrial Company has also started assembling new prototypes at its production facilities as part of the Bumerang R&D work for holding state trials. Also, the Military Engineering Center in Nizhny Novgorod (part of Military Industrial Company) is already assembling a full-size mock-up of the combat vehicle based on the ready-made armored hull for ballistic trials and anti-mine resistance tests, he added.

The combat vehicles underwent tests already in the summer and now a certificate of preliminary trials has been signed, following which the new armor can enter state trials, the press office said.

Russia’s 2S35 Koalitsiya-SV SPH completes preliminary trials
The first batch of Russia's 2S35 Koalitsiya-SV 152 mm self-propelled howitzer (SPH) has completed its preliminary company trials ahead of factory tests and official trials with the Russian Ground Forces, the Ministry of Defence's TV Zvezda reported on 31 December.

The report states that the SPH's 2A88 152 mm/L52 gun was tested in four stages: the first "warm-up" shot, followed by two fired with enhanced charges, after which the howitzer fired four to eight rounds at a single target.

An experimental batch of four vehicles has been produced by UralTransMash, a subsidiary of UralVagonZavod (UVZ). UVZ's 2018 annual report stated that development of the 2S35's component parts had been completed, although the TASS news agency reported in 2015-17 that the system would be in service by 2017.
