Thales High-G Training Fit for Modern Aircraft Pilots
...
Training limitations

Up until recently, the only training facility available for fast jet pilots has been with the human centrifuge at Farnborough, a 62-year-old device that does not match the performance of modern fighter aircraft having a G onset rate of only 1G per second. The ground simulators used for pre-flight training provide cognitive skill training but do not replicate the physiological environment. The maximum acceleration onset rate of the device does not provide realistic training for pilots of aircraft that have acceleration onset rates of more than 10 G.s-1. This major training shortcoming is most dangerous in preparing pilots for air combat where the aircraft will be aggressively manoeuvred, imposing significant strains on both the pilot and aircraft.

The new High-G training facility

To help pilots meet training standards, Thales partnered with AMST, world-leading centrifuge specialists from Austria, to build a 39-tonne centrifuge for the new High-G training facility at RAF Cranwell. The High-G Training centrifuge accelerates from 1G to 9 G in just one second and helps pilots experience realistic flight simulation with high-resolution, out-of-the-window displays – provided by 4K projectors – to fill the forward field of view. Further training tasks are provided by the centrifuge Visual Training Cue system which includes flight through a series of gates in the sky and a missile threat/radar warning receiver. With these capabilities, pilots can better understand how to deal with the accelerations, while flying a combat aircraft and managing the mission systems.

Fast jet pilots progressing through the UK Military Flying Training System and into their careers will refresh their training at least every five years. This is carried out to keep them safe and up-to-date with current techniques to handle High-G forces and experience training under much more realistic conditions. It will, ultimately, save the lives of more fast-jet pilots.

Leonardo and Diamond Aircraft partner to offer maritime surveillance variant of DA62 Special Mission Aircraft
The new DA62 MSA (Maritime Surveillance Aircraft) will be on show for the first time at Paris Air Show 2019

The aircraft will be pitched to customers who have a requirement for affordable Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance (ISR) platforms suitable for short and medium range maritime and over-land surveillance missions

The sensor fit will include Leonardo’s Gabbiano Ultra-Light TS Radar and a third-party Electro-Optic (EO/IR) system, integrated with Leonardo’s ATOS mission system

Die Entwicklung der militärischen Lkw von RMMV sitzt in Wien und die Produktion dieser Lastkraftwagen erfolgt in Wien (HX und SX) und Steyr (TGM). Also: Ja.

PAS19: Precision from Above

Bild
The DART 550 on display was carrying an auxiliary fuel tank and, shown for the first time, a Leonardo Seaspray 5000E Active Electronically Scanned Array (AESA) multi-mode surveillance radar on the under wing hard points. Optional ISR equipment includes a belly-mounted FLIR turret.

While the DART aerobatic trainer is still undergoing a certification programme, it has been demonstrated to a number of European air forces and the Paraguay Air Force. The company told EDR On-Line that a lead customer has been confirmed although its identity could not be revealed.

Diamond at Paris Air Show 2019: World debuts, jam-packed diary and scorching hot tarmac

Bild
The aircraft display was completed with the so-called mother of all Diamond Special Mission Aircraft, the DA42 MPP, introduced in 2005. The version shown at Paris featured the Thales Avni WFOV system and an EO/IR Gimballed Turret Sensor System. In March this year our Special Mission Team succeeded in finalizing this configuration, the most complex one in Diamond’s history. A fleet of two DA42 MPP and two DA62 MPP, each designed and modified to be capable of carrying three different sensor configurations, was handed over to Thales UK. The Reconnaissance Pod mounted to the belly, carrying Thales Avni, was jointly developed with the engineering team from Thales.
