Embraer Defense and Security chooses Fokker Services Group for C-390M aircraft modification package
Fokker Services Group (“FSG”), an independent aerospace service provider, announced today at the NIDV Exhibition Defence & Security (NEDS) event that it has been chosen by Embraer Defense & Security for an extended modification package including turnkey engineering, certification and modification services for nine C-390M military aircraft.
These modifications will prepare the aircraft for use as tactical transport for Special Operations of NATO (North Atlantic Treaty Organization), fulfilling a broad range of military and humanitarian missions. The final operating configuration will be the most extensive C-390M version once delivered and will be far beyond ‘just’ a transport aircraft.
Recently, the Netherlands and Austria confirmed a joint deal for nine C-390M aircraft for Embraer’s tactical transport. Five (5) of these will be operated by the Royal Netherlands Air Force (RNLAF), and the remaining four (4) by the Austrian Air Force.

It’s a wrap!
Today we finished the last day of our visit to Embraer for two reasons; last week Commando Materieel en IT attended the user-group to share experiences from the Brazilian Air Force and all the other first users of the C-390 Millennium. Also suppliers like Knight Aerospace and Pratt & Whitney shared their ideas.
This week we started the first Product Design Review cycle, one of many to come. This is part of the milestone planning in order to deliver the first aircraft to the Netherlands Koninklijke Luchtmacht in 2027. Next to the process of buying an aircraft -this is just the start-, many new developments have to be engineered. As an Aerospace engineer by heart, this is the fun part! What I also would like to share, is the amazing support of all the team members from Embraer. I share some pictures to show the team behind the team. It is really inspiring to see their ambition to make this project a succes.

About last week!….
We have made huge progress in the Product Design Review cycle which started with my earlier post in October last year. Together with the program management team of Embraer and all the engineers we are finalizing the configuration of the aircraft.
A few examples:
-We are working on a protective layer of tape at the bottom of the aircraft (the Belly) to protect the fuselage against small debris.
-To achieve the highest Digital Situational Awareness, not only for the crew but also for our forces on board, we are trying to integrate new communication nodes.
-We have had engineers at our airfields to make sure the aircraft and all its equipment is fit to operate in the future.
This year we will already start the production of the first aircraft, which we be used for additional flight tests in 2026!
