Kennen Sie das PESCO-Projekt AIFV/AAV/LAV? Die Wahrscheinlichkeit, dass es auf eine Weiterentwicklung des Iveco Superav hinausläuft, ist eher gering.

The Italian Navy orders 36 IDV Amphibious Armoured Vehicles (VBA)
IDV will be supplying 36 Amphibious Armoured Vehicles (VBA) Personnel Carrier to the Italian Navy. IDV’s state-of-the-art amphibious vehicles will reinforce the fleet of San Marco Marina Brigade (BMSM) and will effectively increase the Sea Projection National Capability.

On December 22nd, the Directorate of Land Armaments signed a contract with IDV for the supply of 36 Amphibious Armoured Vehicles (VBA) to the Italian Navy. The contract comes as part of the program to renew and extend the vehicles’ fleet for National Defence, aimed at increasing the Sea Projection National Capability of the Italian Navy.
The VBA for the Italian Navy is based on the SUPERAV 8×8, the amphibious vehicle platform used for the US Marine Corps’ ACV (Amphibious Combat Vehicle), which is provided in partnership with BAE Systems.

SeaFuture 2023 – Leonardo unveils new 30×173 mm X-Gun weapon system

Bild
Coming to land, the HITFIST30 UL (Unmanned Light) remotely controlled overhead weapon station (RCOWS) is even lighter than its naval counterpart, its dry weight being less than 1,200 kg. One of the first targets for Leonardo is the fire support version of the new Italian armed forces amphibious vehicle that will enter service with the Joint Navy/Army amphibious capability. While the first batch on order will not see any support vehicle, the next batches should include over 20 of these 8×8 vehicles armed with a medium calibre remotely controlled turret. The number of rounds is an issue as one 30×173 mm round, with its link, weighs around 1 kg, while low profile is also key to survivability, hence the two time 75 rounds proposed by Leonardo; an option for 170 rounds is also available. The turret electronics is mostly derived from that of the HITFIST family, with which the new member maintains over 80% commonality. The turret can be used in Hunter/Killer and Killer/Killer operating modes and can be fitted with antitank missiles or rockets or antiaircraft missiles , the current option being to fit them on the sides, if this does not impact on width limits. The HITFIST 30 UL will also host a coaxial machine gun; according to information acquired by EDR On-Line this should be mounted in a central position and will have a magazine hosting a minimum of 250 rounds. Protection is modular; the weight provided is for the naked turret, the structure providing however a baseline protection that should be close to Level 2. Beside the possible adoption of the HITFIST 30 UL RCOWS on the new Italian 8×8 amphibious vehicles, Leonardo considers its new product as potentially the new turret for future wheeled and tracked vehicles to be developed for the Italian Army, the company obviously looking also at the export market. No dates were provided for the HITFIST 30 availability, but this should be similar to that of the naval turret.

The TALON® (Target Acquisition Land Observation and Navigation) system has been selected as Tactical Mission System (TMS) for the VBA Amphibious Armoured Vehicle of the Italian Navy; the program provides for the construction, by IDV, of 36 vehicles (including 2 prototypes) for the San Marco Marine Brigade in order to replace the historic AAV 7P.

TALON, based on a net-centric architecture that allows it to use all the most sophisticated weapon systems, sensors and data-link radios, is among the most modern BMS (Battlefield Management System) command and control systems, capable of sharing complete tactical scenarios at coalition level, thus representing the ideal solution for the management of land infiltration and exfiltration operations, target acquisition, targeting (DaCAS – DaARTY – DaNFS), escort, peacekeeping and much more.

Leonardo is developing two new medium calibre guns

As said, the work on the Blaze30, the new gun chambered for the 30×113 mm ammunition, started only in late 2023, however as the new weapon exploits many elements developed for the X-Gun, Leonardo will be ready to take orders from 2025 on, delivery times from contract being similar to those for the Gatling 20. Leonardo makes it clear that the approach has been totally different from competitors’ guns, as those were derivatives of weapons born for helicopter use, while the Blaze30 was developed starting from a blank sheet, the aim being to replace12.7 mm heavy machine guns on Lionfish or on HITROLE Light turrets increasing their firepower and effectiveness. As mentioned, the new weapon is heavily based on the X-Gun design, albeit in reduced dimensions considering the much lower chamber pressure of a 30×113 mm round compared to a 30×173 mm one. That Blaze30 mechanism is based on a drum cam, which gives the name to the X-Gun, as during the rotation we can see a cross; a 3D model of the drum cam in real size was visible during the visit to the facility. Of course, it is a scaled down version of that being at the core of the X-Gun, the 30×113 weapon having been defined as a “mini-X-Gun” by some engineers, the main difference apart the type of round being that it features a single feed. As in the bigger gun, the drum cam contains a 24 VCD powered brushless electric motor, which in a three turns rotation ensures all operations, feed, ram, dwell, and extract.

The Blaze30 maintains most of the features of the X-Gun; among these, thanks to the adoption of the brushless motor, it can be fired in the sniper mode, with the round chambered and the shooting process paused until the actual firing, which ensures maximum accuracy. The gun can be fitted with the fuse programming kit allowing the use of airburst munitions; EDR On-Line understood that

KNDS Ammo Italy S.p.A (formerly Nexter Arrowtech), which is developing a 30×173 mm airburst round for the X-Gun specifically designed for the counter-UAS role has already launched the development of a 30×113 mm round for similar use, fuse miniaturisation and lethality package being the main issue. The Blaze30 has a mass of 80 kg, is 2,100 mm long and has a 1,426 mm long barrel, it has a 250 ± 30 rounds per minute rate of fire, case ejection being lateral. The weapon is currently considered at TRL4.
