Es ist immer schön, wenn hier von Österreichischen Rüstungsfirmen gesprochen und geschrieben wird. Ich hoffe, dass auch unsere Politik das auch mitbekommt. Grundsätzlich sind unsere Ministerien nicht berühmt am heimischen Markt zu kaufen. Glock, Steyr Arms - teilweise, GDELS und viele Andere? Gleichzeitig schränken wir selbst unsere Wirtschaft ein, da die Heimat nicht kauft - muss dann ja nicht gut genug sein. Vielleicht helfen die jetzt angestoßenen Exportbemühungen bzw. die Erleichterungen beim Export etwas.

Peregrine UAV under consideration for Royal Navy OPVs, Schiebel showcases S-301

Austrian manufacturer Schiebel has provided an update on its Peregrine rotary-wing unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) and showcased its S-301 UAV with Thales' rockets at the UMEX 2026 exhibition, held in Abu Dhabi from 20 to 22 January.

Speaking to Janes at UMEX on 21 January, Neil Hunter, director for business development at Schiebel, provided an update on the Peregrine intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance (ISR) UAV for the UK Royal Navy (RN). Hunter said that Peregrine is to be brought back to the United Kingdom with a short-term plan for the system to be used for testing at Predannack airfield, at Royal Naval Air Station (RNAS) Culdrose. “In parallel”, he said, “the navy and the MoD [Ministry of Defence] have endorsed a review note [currently being assessed] … to put the Peregrine solution on an OPV [offshore patrol vessel]”. The RN currently operates three River Batch I-class OPVs and five Forth (River Batch II)-class OPVs.

Peregrine is based on Schiebel's Camcopter S-100 platform and is equipped with the Thales I-Master radar, an L3 Harris Wescam electro-optic/infrared (EO/IR) surveillance pod, and Sagetech identification friend-or-foe (IFF) capability. The system was embarked on the Duke (Type 23)-class frigate HMS Lancaster (F 229) in the Gulf from late 2024 until the frigate's decommissioning in 2025. Hunter said that challenges were experienced due to Lancaster being close to the end of its operational life but added that the UAV had proven successful, including operating alongside the frigate's Wildcat helicopter on counter-narcotics operations.

Der Düsseldorfer Technologiekonzern Rheinmetall hat einen neuen mehr­jährigen Rahmenvertrag über die Fertigung von Handgranaten mit den Niederländischen Streitkräften abgeschlossen. Nach vorherigen Rahmen­verträgen von u.a. 155-mm-Artillerie- und 40-mm-Munition, umfasst der Vertrag die Lieferung von rund 15 verschiedenen Typen von Handgranaten aus mehreren Rheinmetall-Produktionsstätten in Deutschland und Europa. Der Rahmen­vertrag wurde für eine Laufzeit von fünf Jahren mit einer Option auf Verlängerung um weitere zwei Jahre geschlossen und hat ein Auftragswert im zweistelligen MioEUR Bereich.

Die Handgranaten werden in den Rheinmetall-Werken in Trittau (Deutschland), Silberhütte (Deutschland) und in Schwanenstadt (Österreich) gefertigt.

Die tschechische Armee führt neue Kälteschutzanzüge der Goldeck Textil GmbH (Carinthia) ein. Der Rahmenvertrag hat einen Wert von 260 Mio. CZK (10,7 Mio. EUR) und 2025-2026 werden ca. 23.000 Anzüge geliefert. Bisher wurden 12.000 Jacken, 12.000 Hosen und 9.280 Überschuhe geliefert:

Hellenic Navy procures CAMCOPTER® S-100 Unmanned Air Systems (UAS) for new FDI frigates

Vienna, 13 February 2026: The Hellenic Navy has signed a contract to procure ship-based CAMCOPTER® S-100 Unmanned Air Systems (UAS) to be deployed on the Hellenic Navy’s Frégate de Défense et d’Intervention (FDI) Belharra-class frigates, namely HS (Hellenic Ship) Kimon, Nearchos and Formion.

The HS (Hellenic Ship) Kimon, which arrived in Greece in January 2026, will be equipped with the CAMCOPTER® S-100 in spring 2026. Another system will be operated from land and used for training, as well as to enhance operator proficiency. The training of the initial Greek CAMCOPTER® S-100 crews is scheduled to be completed in spring 2026.

The remaining S-100 systems will be ship-based and deployed from the Hellenic Navy’s Frégate de Défense et d’Intervention (FDI) Belharra-class frigates, namely HS (Hellenic Ship) Nearchos and Formion. HS Nearchos is scheduled for late 2026, while HS Formion is expected to arrive by early 2027. The French Naval Group-built frigates are pre-fitted for the CAMCOPTER® S-100 integration, enabling rapid installation and operational introduction.

Equipped with a Wescam MX-10 EO/IR camera gimbal and an Overwatch Imaging PT-8 Oceanwatch, the S-100 systems will enhance the Hellenic Navy’s frigate fleet operations across a wide range of missions, such as maritime security, search and rescue operations, environmental monitoring, control of the country’s exclusive economic zone (EEZ) and Anti-Submarine Warfare (ASW).

Advanced surveillance system successfully integrated onto special mission aircraft

Wiener Neustadt, Austria - 5 February 2026: A major upgrade in airborne surveillance has been achieved with the successful installation of new capabilities on the Diamond Aircraft DA62 Multi-Purpose Platform (MPP).

Advanced communications equipment, a high-resolution electro-optical camera and a secure real-time data link were installed to significantly enhance the aircraft’s operational versatility.

A newly fitted ShotOver camera and mission system allow live video streaming to ground stations, giving operators real time situational awareness during critical missions such as border security, intelligence gathering, environmental monitoring, search and rescue and maritime patrol.

Teams from QinetiQ GmbH and Diamond Aircraft worked together on installation, calibration and testing to ensure seamless interaction between the camera payload, avionics and communication systems. The successful integration demonstrates the DA62MPP’s modular design, which makes it easy to adapt for different missions without compromising safety or performance.

With the integration complete, the aircraft is now fully mission-ready and prepared to support a wide range of ISR (Intelligence, Surveillance, and Reconnaissance) operations, delivering strong tactical advantages for both military and commercial customers.
