IDEF 19: FNSS, the Anatolian Leopard starring (4. Mai 2019)

Bild
On Day 3 of IDEF at the FNSS the formal signature of the PARS Special Purpose Tactical Wheeled Armoured Vehicles (SPTWAV, ÖMTTZA in Turkish, for Özel Maksatlı Taktik Tekerlekli Zırhlı Araç) contract took place between SSB and company heads. The prototype of the 6×6 Command and Control version was visible on the stand, fitted with the Sabre-25 one-man turret. In fact the contract signature happened one month earlier, the contract coming into effect in early June.

The 100 vehicles on order will be equally split between 8×8 and 6×6, and will be all equipped with a local engine and driveline; the 30-tonnes four-axles vehicles will be equipped with a Tümosan TMSN X 7.5 6-cylinder 2-stage turbocharged Common Rail diesel engine providing 530 hp at 2,400 rpm fitted to an Allison transmission produced under license by HST Ötomotiv, the 25-tonnes three axles vehicle being powered by a TMSN X 7.4 providing 460 hp at 2,400 rpm.

Although most of the vehicles are aimed at the Turkish Land Forces, five 8×8 vehicles fitted with a remotely controlled weapon station, the final choice has not yet been made, and capable to host up to 12 people will be delivered to the Jandarma, the service branch of the Armed Forces responsible for public order in areas that fall outside the jurisdiction of police forces, usually in rural areas.

The remaining vehicles will be produced in four different variants, the remaining 45 8×8 being in the Sensor version, fitted with a mast-mounted electro-optic suite. This version will be equipped with a RCWS and will host up to nine people, including the crew.

All PARS 6×6 will go to the Turkish Land Forces. The only version fitted with the Sabre turret will be the command and control that will host six people, 30 vehicles of that type being planned. Five vehicles will be fitted in the CBRN reconnaissance version, that will be fitted with an RCWS and will host five or six soldiers. Fifteen vehicles in the radar version will be produced, which will be fitted with the mast-mounted sensor and with the RCWS, the crew being of five soldiers. While the vehicle on show was fitted with two propellers at the rear, these will not appear in the serial production vehicles as the Turkish Land Forces decided to cancel the amphibious capability for all the vehicles part of this contract. FNSS plans to complete the qualification of all the variants in the next 18 months, the contract requiring the delivery of all the 100 vehicles within 36 months from the coming into effect of the document, which means that the last vehicles should be delivered by June 2022.

IDEF 2019: FNSS to supply Turkish Army with its first wheeled AFVs (2. Mai 2019)
FNSS has signed a contract with the Turkish Presidency of the Defence Industries (SSB) for Pars III series vehicles in 6×6 and 8×8 configurations to equip the Turkish Land Forces, marking their first wheeled AFV purchase.

The contract covers the development and production of 100 vehicles, including 5 for the Turkish Gendarmerie, and is due to start in August. The requirement was issued by the Turkish Land Forces in light of operational experience gained on counter-insurgency missions in southeastern Turkey, as well as operations in Syria.

A one-year design phase will follow, which will lead into a one-year qualification and testing phase with initial production. The programme will enter a one-year production phase, with the entire programme expected to be completed in 36 months.

The procurement is designed to provide the Turkish Land Forces with a brand new reconnaissance capability by 2022 and is part of a larger requirement for at least 400 vehicles.

The initial contract covers four variants for the Turkish Land Forces: 45 vehicles will be based on the Pars 6×6 design and will include 30 command-and-control (C2) vehicles as well as 15 radar reconnaissance vehicles; the remaining 50 vehicles will be based on the Pars 8×8 and will be divided between 45 vehicles equipped with an electro-optic sensor suite and 5 chemical, biological, radiological, and nuclear defence (CBRN) vehicles.
To meet this requirement, the Pars C2 vehicle will be armed with the newly designed Saber unmanned turret that carries a 25 mm cannon from ATK and a coaxial machine gun. The remaining variants will carry a remote weapon station from either Aselsan or FNSS.

IDEF 2023 – FNSS: delivering on time and looking at new opportunities

Bild
Seen for the first time at IDEX 2023 the PARS Scout 8×8 Special Purpose Vehicle: this and the 6×6 version are currently in the Phase 1 of the programme, the prototypes of the five different variants undergoing qualification tests in the hands of the national customers, which are the Turkish Land Forces and to the Gendarmerie. The overall order is for 100 vehicles, that on display in the FNSS stand being the armoured personnel carrier variant, the only one to be adopted by the Jandarma. It is fitted with an Aselsan Nefer remotely operated turret armed with a 25 mm cannon produced by TR Mekatronik, most of the mission equipment installed on the different variants being provided by Aselsan. The APC version will be produced in small numbers, the same applying to the CBRN variant, also on an 8×8 chassis.
The other variant based on an 8×8 chassis is the Electro-Optic Reconnaissance Vehicle, which will also be that produced in the bigger numbers. In terms of production volumes this will be followed by the Command and Control variant and by the Radar variant, the two latter vehicles being based on a 6×6 chassis. With the exception of the APC variant seen at IDEF, all other variants will be delivered to the Turkish Land Forces.

Heavily based on the PARS III, the prototypes will start tests in the last quarter of 2023, tests duration being estimated at around six months in order to reach qualification. Phase 2 will be the Low Rate Initial Production that will quickly leave place o Phase 3 that is serial production, final deliveries being planned by the end of 2024 or in the first quarter of 2025.
