During the press conference, Minister Gajdoš along with other MOD and SVK Armed Forces officials updated media representatives on the progress of the SVK militaryʼs modernisation projects.

Media representatives were also informed of the MODʼs ambition to add another 25 pieces of the 155 mm Zuzana 2 Self-Propelled Gun Howitzer to the SVK Armed Forcesʼarsenal of weapons via the state-run company Konštrukta Defence a.s.

The Ministry of Defence plans to buy new howitzers Zuzana 2

Ozbrojené sily (OS) SR plánujú doplniť delostrelectvo o osem kusov 155 mm húfnic ShKH Zuzana 2. S procesom ich obstarávania plánuje rezort obrany začať ešte tento rok. Pre TASR to uviedla hovorkyňa Ministerstva obrany (MO) SR Danka Capáková.

„Na základe operačných potrieb Ozbrojených síl SR je potrebné doplniť delostrelecký oddiel o osem kusov 155 mm ShKH Zuzana 2 na štandardný delostrelecký oddiel zložený z troch batérií,“ povedala Capáková pre TASR.

Celkovo má však rezort obrany záujem až o 25 kusov húfnic, ktoré plánuje získať do roku 2022. „Bude to však závisieť od rozhodnutia vlády SR,“ doplnila Capáková.

Ozbrojené sily SR v súčasnosti disponujú 16 kusmi 155 mm ShKH vz. 2000 Zuzana a 25 kusmi RM vz. 70/80 Modular. Rezort obrany zároveň plánuje rozšíriť škálu munície o špeciálne druhy vrátane osvetľovacej, zápalnej a zadymovacej munície. Rezort obrany dokonca uvažuje aj o presne navádzanej munícii. „Parametre presne navádzanej munície budú zadefinované na základe strategických požiadaviek a analýz získaných z úlohy PESCO "EuroArtillery",“ dodala Capáková.

The Armed Forces (OS) of the SR plan to supplement artillery with eight pieces of 155 mm ShKH Zuzana 2. This was told to TASR by the spokeswoman of the Ministry of Defense (MO) of the Slovak Republic Danka Capáková.

"Based on the operational needs of the Slovak Armed Forces, it is necessary to add an artillery section of eight 155 mm ShKH Zuzana 2 to a standard artillery section consisting of three batteries," said Capáková for TASR.

Overall, however, the Ministry of Defence has an interest in up to 25 pieces of howitzers it plans to acquire by 2022. "But it will depend on the decision of the Government of the Slovak Republic," added Capáková.

The Armed forces of the Slovak Republic currently have 16 pieces of 155 mm ShKH vz. 2000 Zuzana and 25 pieces of RM vz. 70/80 Modular. At the same time, the Ministry of Defence is planning to expand the range of ammunition to special types, including lighting, incendiary and smoke ammunition. The Defense Department even thinks about guided ammunition. "Parameters of guided ammunition will be defined on the basis of strategic requirements and analysis obtained from PESCO 'EuroArtillery'," added Capáková.

Konstrukta Defence unveils new 8×8 Eva self-propelled gun system

Slovakia’s Joint-Stock Company Konstrukta Defence has showcased the new 8×8 variant of its Eva 155/52 mm calibre self-propelled gun-howitzer, which is also known by its export designation of Truck Mounted Gun (TMG).

The latest 8×8 TMG – which is jointly developed by Konstrukta Defence and Czech firms Czechoslovak Group (CSG) and Tatra Trucks from 2017 – is a redesign of the previous 6×6 TMG which was unveiled in 2015.

The vehicle measures 11.5 m long, 2.7 m wide, and 3.28 m tall with the ordnance stowed for transport. The 28-tonne vehicle, which is air-transportable by large tactical airlifters such as the Airbus A400M and Ilyushin IL-76, is operated by a crew of three. It preserves the gun assembly and ordnance fitted to the 6×6 TMG, but adopts a longer 8×8 chassis which is equipped with an auxiliary power unit (APU) as well as a newly designed armoured cab.

The new variant is based on the four-axle Tatra T815-7 8×8.1R and powered by the Euro 3-compliant Tatra T3C-928.90 turbo-charged air-cooled diesel engine with a maximum power output 300 kW at 1,800 rpm, which the company claims to offer improved mobility in challenging terrain.

Field endurance has been improved with a 30 kW APU unit based on the Lombardini 11LD626-3 engine. Half of the power generated by the APU is used for hydraulic system while the remainder powers the ordnance charges the vehicle’s accumulator batteries.

The 155/52 mm calibre ordnance has a 23-litre chamber and can be elevated from -3.5° to +75° and traversed ±60° in the azimuth. The ordnance generates a muzzle velocity of 935 m/s and can achieve a maximum firing range of 41.4 km with high-explosive extended range base-bleed (HE ER-BB) ammunition. It can also fire most NATO-standard 155 mm ammunition that are up to 1,000 mm long.

Slovakia procures domestically produced Zuzana 2 155 mm SPHs

The Slovak government on 23 May approved a Ministry of Defence (MoD) request for a EUR175 million (USD206 million) procurement of 25 ShKH Zuzana 2 155 mm self-propelled howitzers (SPHs) for the Slovak armed forces.

The MoD will award the contract to Slovak defence company Konstrukta-Defence, with initial deliveries scheduled to commence in 2018 and to be completed in 2022.

The contract includes crew training, spare parts and ammunition, and also calls for the maximum involvement of Slovakia's domestic defence industry.

Unlike its predecessor, the ShKH Zuzana 2 155 mm SPH fields a 52 calibre-length barrel, has a full 360-degree turret traverse, a new armoured cab, and a reduced crew of three made possible by greater automation.

Bezpečnostná rada a vláda schválili projekt pre obstaranie samohybných kanónových húfnic ZUZANA 2

155 mm samohybná kanónová húfnica ZUZANA 2 poskytne ozbrojeným silám podporu vojsk pri pozemných operáciách, pričom medzi jej prednosti parí balistická ochrana, ochrana obsluhy proti účinkom zbraní hromadného ničenia a veľká muničná kapacita. Zámerom je na základe operačných požiadaviek ozbrojených síl doplniť delostrelecký oddiel o 8 ks 155 mm ShKH ZUZANA 2 na štandardný delostrelecký oddiel o troch batériách. A zameniť 16 húfnic ZUZANA 1 za nové verzie a jednu zaobstarať aj pre potreby výcviku.

Außerdem werden 16 bestehende "Zuzana 1" durch dieselbe Anzahl von "Zuzana 2" ersetzt und eine zusätzliche "Zuzana 2" für Ausbildungszwecke beschafft.

Leonardo signs defence systems collaboration agreement with Konstrukta Defence in Slovakia (12. Juni 2018)

Leonardo has signed a collaboration agreement with Slovakia's Konstrukta Defence, a leading provider of artillery systems, that will see the two companies working together in the precision-guided ammunition field.

The agreement will see Leonardo's precision-guided Vulcano ammunition integrated onto Konstrukta's ZUZANA 2 155mm/52 cal artillery system, with the two companies going on to jointly market the products internationally.

Czech Republic, Slovakia eye joint armored vehicle, howitzer acquisitions

Speaking at a joint session of the two cabinets in the Slovak city of Kosice, Babis noted the Czech Republic produces armored vehicles and Slovakia makes howitzers, owing to which their armed forces could perform joint acquisitions of this gear, as reported by local news agency CTK.

France’s Nexter Group and Czech vehicle-maker Tatra Trucks jointly produce the Titus six-wheel drive armored vehicle. Slovakia’s DMD Group makes the Zuzana 2 155mm self-propelled howitzer.

A myslím, že je to i téma v rámci V4. Pokud v tomto směru budeme spolupracovat a budeme vzájemně zvyšovat obchod, myslím si, že je to velice dobrá zpráva. Spolupráce v armádě je jedna ze stěžejních věcí, které jsme dnes diskutovali,“ upřesnil premiér Babiš.

Modernization of Armed Forces delivers tangible results, after over 20 years gunners conduct live firing on howitzers while receiving guidance from helicopter

A case in point is the latest live firing of the Zuzana 2000 Self-propelled Gun Howitzers (SpGH) with the targets identified and the coordinates passed on from a helicopter, which has not been practised for over 20 years, as this week a UH-60M Black Hawk helicopter has provided guidance to artillery fire at the Training Centre Lešť.

Taking part in the training are members of the 1st Fire Battery and the Reconnaissance Battery, Self-Propelled Artillery Unit Michalovce. The live firing tests the capabilities of the SpGHs, whereas the coordinates are passed on from a helicopter with the use of the newly fielded DELOSYS Fire Control System. The training involves 130 personnel and 32 assets. Communications are supported by soldiers from the Communications and Information Systems Base Ružomberok.

Anscheinend hat das slowakische Heer erstmals das Artilleriefeuerleitsystem DELOSYS (Delostrelecké palebné systémy), das von der DMD Group entwickelt wurde, im scharfen Schuss erprobt. Es umfasst den Raketenwerfer RM-70 MODULAR, das Artilleriesystem ZUZANA, die Wetterstation MARWIN und das Artillerieaufklärungsfahrzeug ALIGATOR-DPP [Entwickelt von VOP Trenčín, a.s., in Kooperation mit VTÚ Liptovský Mikuláš (Am 1. 7. 2009 fusionierten VOP Trenčín a. s., VTÚ Liptovský Mikuláš und LOBB Banská Bystrica. Die Firma gehört heute zur MSM Group.), und ausgestattet mit dem tragbaren Beobachtungssystem TAOS 20.].

The company MSM Martin, s.r.o., branch Trencin specializes primarily to repair military wheeled and tracked technics, modernization of military and special vehicles, spare parts sales and manufacturing of mobile containers of series ISO 1C.

The company has been established in 1918 in Bratislava as a Main car repair workshops for Western Slovakia. Later the company has been moved to the Trencin city. After the World War II. the factory was rebuild and focused on military trophy technics. Since 1994 company implemented the technology to repair tanks, BMP and overhaul of UAZ vehicles. The company also provided installation of the simulators of T-55 and BMP. In the civilian sector, it offered mobile workshops used for field repairs the construction of water projects, highways, maintenance of pipelines, etc.

An important milestone in the history of the company was 2005 when it began production of light armoured vehicle Aligator 4x4, by which our army was equipped with.

In 2006, a state joint-stock company Vojensky opravarensky podnik (Military Reapir Company) Trencin was established and in the same year it has been reached a permission to perform an authorized service TATRA vehicles to which provides spare parts and perform warranty and post-warranty service.

At the January 1st in 2014 was company incorporated as a branch plant into the MSM Martin Ltd. At the beginning of 2015 has been established MSM GROUP Ltd. which is covering several companies operating in the defence area included very well known ZVS company, and MSM Martin Ltd. also.
