http://www.janes.com/article/79822/new- ... from_rss=1Jane's obtained documentation showing OmskTransMash has produced a concept for a new family of high-speed amphibious armoured fighting vehicles (AFVs), the Naval Infantry Fighting Vehicle (BMMP), featuring a range of new equipment and capabilities in a similar manner to the Russian Army’s new ‘next-generation’ Armata, Kurganets, and Bumerang platforms.
OmskTransMash is a subsidiary of UralVagonZavod, Russia’s largest tank manufacturer.
Inspired by existing platforms, including the Chinese ZBD-05 (ZBD 2000) and US AAV7, the platform would be fully amphibious utilising water jets and a unique system for converting the hull to amphibious operations. Drawing inspiration from the now-cancelled US Expeditionary Fighting Vehicle (EFV) programme, the platform is designed to plane on the water to achieve far higher water speeds than typically seen with an AFV, allowing longer range (claimed at up to 100 km) over the horizon transport from ship to shore.
The amphibious mechanism is relatively unique, only seen before on the developmental US EFV demonstrator manufactured by General Dynamics Land Systems in the early 2000s.
The mechanism's deployment process takes approximately 40 seconds: prior to entering water a trim vane is extended on the vehicle nose, and a bow blade at the front of the vehicle is hydraulically lowered to cover the entire lower portion of the hull and running gear. Bilge pumps are activated and a second flat blade is lowered at the rear of the vehicle as it enters the water.
