The first prototype is intended for performance and flight-handling trials. A second airframe intended for strength and fatigue tests is under construction.
After the prototype completes the testing stage, the Ministry of Defence (MoD) is expected to order a low-rate initial production batch of Il-112Vs for service trials.
The Il-112V has been developed under the Lyogkiy Voyenno-Transportnyi Samolyot (Lightweight Military Transport Aircraft: LVTS) programme to replace the An-26 and some An-12 auxiliary transports operated by Russian military aviation.
