FOSS Christopher F.: Oman to be first customer for Cobra 120 mm mortar, in: Jane's International Defence Review (11 November 2020)
The Royal Army of Oman (RAO) is the first customer for the Swiss Cobra RUAG 120 mm recoiling smooth bore muzzle-loaded mortar system, according to the United Nations Army Transfer list. The Swiss Army is likely to be the second customer.
Images released by Turkey's FNSS Savunma Sistemleri show that these mortar systems have been installed in 12 of the 172 Pars III family of armoured fighting vehicles (AFV) ordered by Oman from FNSS Savunma Sistemerli in late 2015.
Deliveries to Oman ran from 2017 through to August 2020 and of the 172 Pars IIIs, 145 are in the 8x8 configuration an the remaining 27 are in 6x6s.
