Saab 105 Oe (SK 60 in Sweden)
Jettrainer, VIP-Transport. The Saab 105 Oe is a variant of the Saab
105 XT. Over a long period of time, the 40 Saab 105 were the backbone
of the Austrian Air Force. Today the aircraft is mainly used as a Jettrainer,
but it is also used for the protection of major events (against slow
targets) and for VIP transports. For liaison duties, the 2 ejection
seats can be exchanged for 4 normal seats.
Austria is partner country of the Advanced
European Jet Pilot Training (AEJPT) program. The future of Austria's
own Jettrainers is therefore uncertain. Plans have been made to upgrade
16 to 22 Saab 105 with glass cockpits and to put the remaining planes
out of service. But the aquisition of used jet trainers is more certain.
